The Spurs could free up 23M if they just renounce one player with an extremely large cap hold.
Interesting, Philly just picked up Wilson Chandler.

hmmm I forget about Tony... /sigh

Free agent forward Kevon Looney has reached an agreement to re-sign with Golden State, league sources tell ESPN.
This is incorrect...with everyone they have signed or have their options already picked up, if they let everyone else go, they would still be 6M over the cap.
For any cap space they would need to trade players.
I wonder if we can trade for Kevin Love.......
No interest on Anderson, Parker, and Forbes still.
With LMA staying on the team as well??
I wonder what the hold up is with Capela? I thought this was like a no-brainer for HOU and that he earned his max pay day?
He's restricted so they're just going to match his highest offer. Looks like the market may not have been that strong for him in a non D'Antoni system.
There's no team with $ available to give him the max so he's losing leverage and Houston are probably lowballing him hard.
I'm surprised Dallas didn't try and hamstring Houston with a huge contract offer (plus Capela is much younger and more impactful than DJ) but they've been desperate for DeAndre Jordan forever now.
Only other team with interest before lottery selection IIRC was Phx.
For sure - I mean, I know what is literally happening, but I am surprised. If SA did something like that they would be murdered by some fans for “alienating” a good player.
I wonder if this will have an effect on Clint’s desire to stay with the team? Maybe he takes a one-year deal so he can leave next year?
I was hoping Dallas would give him the max and force Morey's hand to add a third max contract on that bloated payroll but alas.
It could also be that most teams aren't even going after capela because they know the rockets will match now causing both sides to agree to a number which looking at rockets payroll they are sure to seek something conservative.
HOU is in a crazy tough spot lol. Let’s say Clint take his qualifying offer so he can leave HOU next year.
If HOU renounces all of their cap holds next year, Clint is gone and they trade BOTH Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon while taking no money back, they would have Harden, CP3, Tucker and Nene and only 11M in cap space
I would imagine HOU understands the dire situation here and that they will not leverage Clint too much. I mean, they probably know they can’t get anyone as good for 11M basically so they will work something out. But If Clint gets anything more than 11M then HOU, with just CP/Harden/Clint/Tucker would have no cap space even if they got rid of every other player on their roster.
Also, regarding SA’s RFA’s the market is drying up fast. Getting to keep Kyle/Bertans for one more year at sub-TaxMLE/around that amount is a good thing
I dont think they take longer term deals at that price, but SA should be able to keep them for their QO’s or really close.
They're about 17 mil below the tax, if they could squeeze Kyle, Davis, Parker and a back up big there they'd have done a great job. Even on longer contracts but less $ per year they'd create decent trade chips.
I also imagine they'd want to give themselves some breathibg room under the tax because of the pending Kawhi trade, so it'd be tough to keep everyone.
I would wait to see what will happen to DJ's max next offseason...
About Capela FA, call me crazy but I would like to have a more versatile PF with a 3p shoot -someone like Mirotic- in a cheap contract than Capela in a max contract.
I think if Kyle/Bertans take their QO, SA is in a great spot. That would only be 8M for those two. I can’t imagine SA taking on salary in a Kawhi deal so I think they are more than safe.
If they can get Milutinov at his rookie scale then that would solve the C problem. We shall see. Have not heard anything about him coming over.
But they can’t really do that. See my above post about HOU salary situation.
Yessss!!!!
