Well, Kawhi managed to reduce his trade value to low picks and borderline rotation players.

there’s no point in trying to minimize kawhi’s role.
they're still going to repeat that day after day, it's useless

Maybe teams don't want to pay up for Leonard because they think he might have a career threatening injury. In a normal case like this the Spurs would keep him and hope to trade before the deadline once he re-establishes his value on the court. But Leonard doesn't want to play anymore.

Woj/Bobby Marks podcast. Kawhi relevant portion begins 12:45 of part 1

    – Teams concerned about Kawhi’s representation. It’s an uncle and a football guy but no one with an NBA track record GMs can trust. GMs cannot go to ownership with confidence Kawhi will or won’t re-sign because there is no relationship or history with his reps.

    — Woj contradicts recent Kawhi/Clippers reports. Says the idea of going to Clippers and head to head with Lebron and potentially being dwarfed by that does not appeal to Kawhi. ( What a pussy)

    — Suggests the days of “godfather” trade offers are over because teams value draft picks and cheap contracts more than ever

    — Talks about 5th year option not being the advantage for small markets that the NBA hoped it would

    — Marks doesn’t think Spurs have the leverage they think they do (whatever that is supposed mean). They suggest offers might improve if Spurs allowed interested teams 24 hours to talk to Kawhi

    — Woj says Sixers may have more medical info on Kawhi than the Spurs because their doctors have more access. (But can that doctor release a patient’s medical info to a team without permission just because he’s employed by that club?)

    — Woj doesn’t think any party has the stomach for it but admits that the only way to increase value of trade return would be if Kawhi proves he’s a top 5-10 player again on the court

PATFO just needs to shut the trade talks down so we can all move on to the upcoming season. The trade they want just isn't there so let Kawhi know so he can get ready to play for S.A. again.

Kawhi killed his trade value when he said he'd only resign with the Lakers. He'd be gone by now otherwise. He did this to himself. Or his stupid fukin ground or whatever.

Bingo. You don't get to hold out in the NBA and expect teams to not notice. Everyone knows what went down. That's why the trade offers are crap and 'the group' better be glad if the Spurs offer any more of the supermax than another team can offer him outright in free agency (assuming that everything checks out).

PATFO should call off trade talks immediately and make this dude come to training camp, and then you can see what's going on..

Not that I think the Spurs should take Ainge’s proposal but:

    1. Celtics own all of their first round selections going forward.

    2. Celtics get the Sacramento Kings first round pick in 2019. This option was picked up by the Celtics on trade with Philadelphia for first overall pick in 2017 NBA Draft.

    3. The Celtics will get the L.A. Clippers first round pick in 2019 only if it's is No. 15 or later (1 to 14 are protected). If Celtics don't get the pick, it reverts to 2020 under same restrictions, from pick No. 15 and later. If the Celtics don't get that Clippers pick in 2020, they will receive the Clippers 2022 second round pick.

    4. The Celtics will get the Memphis first round pick in 2019 if it is No. 9 overall or later; or No. 7 and later in 2020. Otherwise, the Celtics will receive the Memphis first round pick in 2021 with no restrictions.

I agree, i seriously doubt at this point that anyone is going to give up more so Pop might as well just end it and tell Kawhitter to get ready to suit up in silver and black next year. Also tell him he better play or he'll make sure his agency is blackballed from the NBA.

Of course Woj is saying that. He works for ESPN now, and the Lakers are ESPN's favorite team.

He was ready to accept the extension just a few weeks ago, his camp leaked it to Jabari and Shams. Then the Spurs denied him the deal

With Kawhi in a long term contract, they would have many teams willing to give it all for him in 2021 FA. He plays this next and 2020 season in SA and then trade him for whatever Spurs want.

The Spurs would have looked elite for two seasons more and then get what they want in a trade.

It would have been way better than this zero-great offers/losing him for nothing.
Can't believe every rumor but his camp started insisting on a no trade clause which made the Spurs back off. We shall see what happens tbh. So long as Spurs keep playing the long game there is hope. I just hope it doesn't backfire on them.

Obviously they can make a strong offer just based around picks. My question is what would the offer look like because they have to add salary to make it work under the current rules.

Damn. So this whole bending over for LA thing has been going on in the NBA forever then.
Yes it has. The Lakers even tried to get Bill Russell to come out of retirement and play with Wilt Chamberlain, either backing him up or at the 4.

Problem with a no trade clause is he can sign it, start pulling the same to try to force himself onto the Lakers, contract in hand. Now Spurs will have to take a boatload of crap back just to match salaries. Who the on the Spurs should trust Leonard and his group at this point?

Pretty much why all the gms are low balling the Spurs. Watch Cris Carter on FS1 and you can tell he is in serious pr mode for Kawhi. It's quite hilarious how apparent and tied he is to Kawhis group.

As a fan I am beyond ready to end the drama and have a team with a known roster to root for. But the Spurs gotta keep playing the long game.

Yep. I'm only invested because I am so irritated by Kawhi's diva drama and dirty tactics. I'm over it. I'm okay if we lose Kawhi for nothing.
