Warriors were by far and away the favorite in 2016.
I'm pretty sure it's the Spurs during that time the favorite to win the le because of those offseason moves by the Spurs. Cavs took the Warriors in six games without Irving and Love and somehow called their le an asterisk. No one saw that they would have a 73-9 record before the season starts. They still don't have Durant during that time.

Since we have other threads talking about different hypothetical situations. I remember last year Michael Jordan trying to trade Kemba for Kawhi. Granted this trade is still uneven if the Spurs do it but the Spurs could have gotten Kemba in straight up swap for Kawhi and not have had to give up anything else. They probably could have gotten also several first round picks in return that would have become more valuable since Kawhi would bolt from Charlotte after a year. I know there is the risk Kemba also bolts from the Spurs after a year but I feel it would have allowed the Spurs to focus 100 percent on the rebuild if he did leave.

If you want the honest answer? No. I remember at the time I didn't want that. Truth is, I didn't want to trade Kawhi to begin with, but barring that, my favorite was Tatum and some Boston picks + filler. Apparently once Boston started playing really well, they took that trade off the table, so considering the options PATFO had in July when they made their trade, I am not sure I don't take Derozan, but I would NOT have included Danny, no way, and if I did, I wanted either Siakam or OJ. That was non-negotiable. Otherwise make him play like Jimmy Butler this season and field trades during the season.

DeRozan seems uninterested. Or tired already. When he first got here, he was bought in and looked better offensively than Kawhi. No excuses, needs to be playing all out but I wonder if his interest is already waning. He can’t do it all on his own. I still think “DeFrozen” can be who we thought he was, or who he was the first few games. I’d be tired of dragging these carcasses with me too if I had his talent on a team like this. The man’s surrounded by dead weight!

So, to answer. No. I still think Derozan’s the guy. I don’t think we’d be in a better situation with Kemba. I think they’re kinda the same player in terms of overall impact. Kemba’s just hot right now, sue me.

He might be depressed and it shows in his play.
The realization he's not playing with a stacked team with elite roleplayers, athletes, and defenders, as he had in the Raptors, must hit him like a cold shower, with ice on top.

is exactly that, he should not have to be the playmaker, scorer and still have to defend the best perimeter player (he is not Kawhi, and even Kawhi had a better 3x team at his side), he already seems exhausted physically and emotionally (which is even worse)

That to me is the biggest concern that Derozan could be already checked out while I feel Kemba would still be giving it his all. Kemba is used to playing on ty teams so the losing wouldn't get to him like it is to Demar. Also Kemba would be more motivated to play at a high level simply because he's a FA this coming summer. I think another plus possibly could have been that LMA would have played better with Kemba. The only high volume offensive player that LMA has ever played well with is Lillard. Kemba is similar player to Lillard just not as talented. Also Kemba has experience playing with a big man similar to LMA in Al Jefferson. Jefferson's last great season came from playing with Kemba. I have a feeling Kemba would have known how to utilize LMA and get him involved offensively. Obviously not making excuses for LMA playing like and not caring anymore but I feel Kemba would have been a better fit for him.

The hooneymoon stage for him could already be done? He’s loyal as can be so I doubt he’d pull a nephew, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it crossed his mind
