See if I have this right.
Spurs are not wanting to extend Leonard this summer. Super max or other (I assume or we’d hear some numbers by now?). The compromise is if Leonard commits long term they’ll add anorther all-star this season. If a trade worthy enough is on the table they’ll deal him though.
Leonard’s side is super max or trade to LA. Possibly Philly depending on reports. No in between.

Spurs could have had Zhaire Smith, Lonnie, and Michael Porter JR if they took that Clippers trade. Probably would have been able to shed Patty and/or Pau too while getting Tobias Harris back.
Sigh, that would have been nice but I guess the front office didn't think it was enough of a return to keep them compe ive this season.

That Clippers trade was terrible.
We'll see what the spurs might end up with. Might not look too bad after it's all said and done.

at the braintrust. This is why you always keep your options open. Now they seem stunned that the Spurs didn't just roll over and trade him (as well as that the Lakers didn't want to trade much - why trade much when he's said he's signing next year, anyways?).
Also it appears that multiple GMs around the league have serious reservations about dealing with Leonard's group.

Pop is the reason. He need to check his ego. He's never had a player become publicly insubordinate the way Kiwi has. Given the national public perception he has and his military background, his dumbass pride is getting in the way of his judgment.
It is flat out incompetence if he doesn't do the best deal for the Spurs. whether it is dealing with the Lakers or whoever. If Kawhi stays, he'll be just giving lip service with one foot out of the door and an eye on La La land. That's not fair to Spur fans. I'd be pissed if I were Spur fan, with Pop. Not Kawhi.

Please. Just like we got PG13? If we want him we need to go get him. If we wait we'll be too late.

Not to mention that you just spent most of this year publicly ting on the one team who can offer you substantially more, perhaps one-hundred million American dollars more than any other NBA franchise.
At this point the camp has all but admitted that Leonard held out last season after being cleared to play by team doctors.

I'm actually very supportive of Pop. He's handling the situation the way I would handle it. Kawhi ed the Spurs over this year by not playing and tarnished their reputation. Why would I want to accommodate Kawhi for his bad behavior plus the Spurs will never get close to equal value for him. So I'm cool with just letting him walk next summer.
Pop knows the best option for the Spurs is to keep the top 3 player and try to work it out.
So teams will not sign Leonard next summer as a free agent because they don’t want to deal with his group? How crazy is that.
