Except it wasn't Kawhi doing those things, it was his uncle. Which is why Pop wanted to try and salvage it because he is a top 5 NBA player, but he never got the chance to with his wife passing during the post season and not being able to meet with Kawhi before his camp leaked his desire to be traded.

Funny thing is, if they kept quiet, they probably get their guy out of San Antonio or, at the very least, make him 221 million dollars richer. But all this leaking screwed it up. Yeah it hurt the Spurs, but it is hurting their "client" even more. His rep is trash right now. And that isn't the Spurs fault.

All.bs storylines for uncle Dennis and his agent to sabotage their way to LA. Kawhi looks like he is down with the hard work it takes to be great. All of this flies in the face of what we've seen from Kawhi. Now that he fired his agent he wants to try to play "Lebron". Laughable.

I actually don't think they will trade him before training camp. They are going to have to play him some games just to showcase his value. He has a terrible reputation but a lot of NBA teams would be willing to take a risk on him if shows he can still play at an MVP level. I still remember teams being interested in Artest after the Malice in the Palace brawl.

Well this just sucks, no matter what is true at a minimum, the Spurs are going to be hurt by this. PATFO needs to do whats best for the organization. While it might be somewhat satisfying to screw Leonard over, you don't do it at the expense of hurting the team further. (On the other hand, if he gets screwed and you are able to help the team, by all means, go for it).

The way I see it, you go into the season expecting him to show up for training camp and play out the last year of his contract. Evidently, the trades that have been discussed are not as beneficial to the team as the added cap space following this season if he walks away after camp is over. It sucks to lose Top 5/10 talent for nothing but since cap space is in play, nothing can be better than inferior contracts/talent. You can at least try to sign who you want with cap space instead of taking someone else's lousy contract or overrated potential.

You have to be prepared for what may happen when training camp opens. If he shows up and plays, great. If he holds out, sue. If he claims he is hurt again, involve the NBA and have an independent doctor verify if he is injured or not.

If he plays and excels, his trade value will increase compared to what it is now. If he does not play. Let him walk away and be someone else's problem. If the relationship is salvaged, then talks can begin about a new contract. Don't get me wrong, I think this is unlikely and the only way the relationship can be salvaged from point of view is he takes on new representation. Jabari and others seem to lead you to believe that won't happen and that is probably correct.

Now, I don't have access to as much information as the Spurs do but I am with SAGirl on this, mind games and Uncle Dennis aside, he has shown a frequency of having nagging injuries that would preclude me from wanting to offer him a supermax. If this past season has all been a scam (holdout) and there was no injury, I still have concerns about his injury history preceding this past season. He is no Iron Man even if he has not been as fragile as Tiago was.

As a shlep who will post on a message board once in a while, I may want to screw him over, screw the Lakers over or ruin Uncle Dennis but I don't have big bucks invested in the Spurs organization and am writing checks because of the decisions that are being made. At the end of the day, PATFO has to do what is best for the organization in the long haul with what is a bad situation

I think that is the long game and holding out for true value that helps the team even if the February trade deadline comes and goes with no trades and he signs with the Lakers or Clippers or Real Madrid or whoever Uncle Dennis wants him to.

Worse case scenario, we have cap space at the end of the year. Feel bad for the teammates that have to deal with this next year while this is being sorted out.
