IF the Spurs match Anderson's offer sheet, here's an estimate of what his contract will look like for the next 4 seasons (via bballinsiders):

    Year 1: $8.6 million
    Year 2: $9 million
    Year 3: $9.5 million
    Year 4: $9.9 million

Could these recent moves be a way of clearing the way for Kawhi's possible return?
PATFO has stayed firm that they want to repair the relationship. I will only believe in a trade when I see it bc they have remained really steadfast in trying to re-sign him. It may come down to them paying Kawhi the supermax and turning over this page. It will be really awkward for a little bit, but just like Lamarcus last season, him balling all season and having a great MVP season will definitely put this behind.

That being said, that is a dream scenario, which I think Spurs are still hoping to achieve. They may end up in other scenarios. This thing with Kawhi isn't over.

I'm a big fan, but tough to say if the Spurs should match with the uncertainty surrounding a potential Kawhi trade and what they're going to get in return..

He can be a very valuable contributor on a team that fits well around him, but I don't think this is the team, they haven't figured out a way to properly utilize his offense IMO..I also hate the fit with Murray in the SL, as well, along with the Spurs overall need for shooting..

He'll be great for Memphis if the Spurs don't match, though, expecting a breakout season..

That's an average player contract for a, well, average player.

I am really happy for him. His impact defensively will do that team well, and I do expect him to help them. The West is a real dogfight, will be tough every night, but I do expect him to be a positive factor in Memphis.

Kyle last year wasn’t that good. Capable NBA player, but he’ll never sniff an All star game

He won't sniff the All-Star game? What stupid standard is that? You need role players, too, brah.

He doesn't have to be an All-Star..he's already a top-tier defensive player, he just needs to figure out an offensive niche and/or find the right fit..that may never happen, of course, but it's worth a shot..

You have to consider that a team like Memphis isn't going to attract star free agents, they need to look for potential in the middle of the list instead..

She was right about him given how much money he’s making. I mean, Memphis isn’t above making bad deals, but they like him to offer that kind of money, so maybe she saw the same stuff the Grizzlies see. I doubt the Spurs match but they may have no choice given the market and the importance of that position.
Besides, unless there is a trade the Spurs really can't replace him otherwise. They are hard capped... They would lose him and just be left with an empty space... It all hinges on what they expect Kiwi will do and how confident they are he will be healthy all season and not need an above replacement level player to take his minutes the next time his quad is sore tbh.

    /ouchie I got a booboo.

Gay and Anderson are a good platoon at the position.

I think they still keep Anderson even if Kawhi stays.

If the Spurs can pay Scrubby Mills 12M/year to do next to nothing, they'll absolutely match Kyle's offer sheet.

Let's say he doesn't improve next year. Do you guys think that a 3 year, $28 million contract for a player of his caliber is easily movable without including other assets? If so then makes sense to match.

The thing that the stats don't capture is how scared Kyle Anderson is on offense. He's the opposite of someone like Horry. And sure, he's going to give you solid numbers and be a servicable player but he's never going to be someone you can count on during crunch time and that's actually something you need out of role players you put around stars. He doesn't need to be Robert Horry, but he needs to not be the opposite of Robert Horry and that isn't ever going to change.

I don't want players who are scared. Good luck in Memphis.

People comparing this contract to Mills miss exactly how Mills has the most valuable skill in the NBA - shooting. Kyle does not. Thats the bottom line on why Patty got more. Using Pattys contract to justify matching this one is ridiculous. If Kyle could shoot then this would be a bargain. But he can't and he's also shown that he's scared as when it comes to open shots so no thanks.

It was his first season getting consistent minutes. Plus he is a natural pg by instinct. Last years injuries made everything a struggle for most except LMA I'm sure. He will get better as he ages since his game is not about athleticism.

Its not the most valuable skill. Its the most entertainment value skill. Kyle anderson makes the correct basketball play more often than not, but that is not valued by the majority of fans. See your previous posts

Right, his game is not about athleticism and he's been playing basketball for over a decade by this point so why is he scared to shoot? That is't something you develop. You are either not scared, or you are, and Kyle is. That's a dealbreaker for me. You don't mature out of that. He's had 4 years with Chip and he's STILL scared AF.

He's not a bad player but that quality is just bad.

Shooting is the most valuable skill in basketball and it's not even close.
