That seems ultra re ed that one has to have a military background to be a patriot.

Certainly some Aspergers-ridden autistic re doesn’t qualify for military service, but even if he showed his log of hours volunteering at the local VA office, or for USO, or donating to Folds Of Honor or whatever, then I’d give him a pass. But he did exactly there as well.

They Fought and Died for America. Then America Turned Its Back.

In a war that claimed nearly 57,000 Filipino soldiers and untold numbers of civilians, Ganio lived to see the dawn of the Philippine liberation.

In 1946, barely a year after the war’s close, the U.S. government would repeal all the “rights, privileges, or benefits” given to Filipino soldiers like Ganio, essentially denying that they had been active in the U.S. military at all.

Approximately 260,000 Filipino servicemen were mobilized

soldiers, nurses, recognized guerilla units and more. But after the war, the financial obligation of that mobilization loomed large.

With the Philippines on the verge of independence, the U.S. Congress started to reconsider its commitment to Filipino veterans.

In February 1946, it issued the first of two Rescission Acts, both of which

denied Filipino veterans the right to be recognized as active service members in the U.S. Armed Forces.

In exchange, the U.S. offered the Philippine Army a sum of $200 million. It also paid compensation to Filipino soldiers disabled in the war and kin of those who were killed — sometimes at half the rate of their American counterparts.

    Ultimately,

Filipino servicemen were left stripped of their pensions,

    educational stipends and

    medical care

under the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Just as important was the fact that the

legislation seemed to negate any sacrifices the veterans made on behalf of the U.S.

As numerous articles have pointed out, God's Own Country America has treated non-white, non-male, non-Christians like since Europeans arrived.

(whataboutism: Spanish + Catholic Church were as bad, if not worse, everywhere south of North America)

"Zhao, 31, said his "ship out" date to basic training was delayed for two years as he underwent background checks, counterintelligence interviews and rigorous reviews added as requirements for immigrant enlistees.

He continued to pursue his PhD in geography at Texas A&M but also hit the gym, prepping for boot camp. And he trained — in uniform — with his unit. He had military identification and health care, he said.

In April, Zhao visited Washington, D.C., for the first time, touring the White House and visiting the Republican National Committee.

That same month, he got word from his unit commander: He was being discharged. He was told simply that his discharge was "uncharacterized," he said.

"I'm not a national threat," Zhao said. "On the contrast, I'm a national merit because people like me with higher education and critical skills, we want to serve this great U.S. Army. I'm a good scientist no matter what."

The Pentagon announced last October that in order to apply for citizenship, immigrant recruits were required to have gone through basic training and served honorably for either 180 days or a year, depending on their Army classification. But that requirement has been challenged in court.

Some discharged service members whose basic training was delayed cannot start the naturalization process.*Others who started the process have had their applications put on hold.

Immigration attorneys told the AP that many immigrants let go in recent weeks received an "uncharacterized discharge," which is neither dishonorable nor honorable......."

DMC is right. Guys get discharged from the military all the time for many reasons, white, black, citizen or noncitizen. They get an ordinary discharge if they dont complete their enlistment and its not dishonorable.

Even American citizens cannot claim veteran status if they fall under entry level separation, which happens if you are separated prior to 180 days of active military service.

If you don't go to basic, you aren't in the military. That's an elementary concept.

Most people who enlist join through the Delayed Entry Program(DEP) sometimes called the Future Soldiers Program. This allows someone to sign up for the military prior to the date when they will ship out for initial training. People in the DEP are unpaid and are not subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, UCMJ, ergo not in the military ergo cannot be discharged.

40 people... wow. I had more than that wash out of tech school in one evolution.

A couple visited their soldier son-in-law on July 4. The Army turned them over to ICE.

"The U.S. Army has stopped discharging immigrant recruits who enlisted seeking a path to citizenship — at least temporarily.

A memo shared with The Associated Press spells out orders to high-ranking Army officials to stop processing discharges of men and women who enlisted in the special immigrant program.

"Effective immediately, you will suspend processing of all involuntary separation actions," read the memo signed July 20 by Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs Marshall Williams......."
