A Russian-Backed Offensive in Syria Makes a Mockery of Trump

More than three hundred thousand civilians are on the move—some on tractors, some on foot—trying to escape a Russian-backed Syrian army offensive aimed at reconquering the city of Dara’a and the surrounding area, where the rebellion against the regime of Bashar al-Assad began seven years ago.

The plight of the Syrians fleeing Dara’a is another sad example of America’s persistent reluctance to involve itself in the Syrian war.

Donald Trump criticized Obama’s Syria policy, but since becoming President he has more or less continued it.

Last July, President Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia agreed to a ceasefire in Dara’a and its environs. (King Abdullah of Jordan signed on, too.)

There’s hardly been a peep out the Trump White House.

    The “de-escalation zone” was inaction disguised as action;

indeed, for all of President Trump’s criticism of his predecessor,

he has made it absolutely clear that he intends to stay out of Syria,

even at the price of allowing Putin to make him look like a pathetic weakling.

Cafarella, the Syria analyst, put it more succinctly: “There was never any intention of enforcing the agreement.”

Michiko Kakutani writes in her new book, “The Death of Truth”:

“Trump, of course, is a troll —

both by temperament and by habit.

His tweets and offhand taunts are the very essence of trolling —

    the lies,

    the scorn,

    the invective,

    the trash talk, and

    the rabid non sequiturs

of an angry, aggrieved, isolated, and deeply self-absorbed adolescent

who lives in a self-constructed bubble and

gets the attention he craves from bashing his enemies and

trailing clouds of outrage and dismay in his path.”

very surprised that Heritage is not supine toward, not in deference to Trash, as are the rest of Repugs, Fox News, right wing hate media, Trash supporters, ST rightwingnutjobs.

Trash pulling US troops out of Europe and SK would be dictated and cheered by Pootin. Pootin would probably grab back the Baltic countries.

Poland and Hungary are going total autocracy, and no doubt Pootin has his in there, too.

    Iran Air Flight 655

On 3 July 1988, Iran Air Flight 655, a scheduled civilian passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai,

was shot down by an SM-2MR surface-to-air missile fired from USS Vincennes, a guided missile cruiser of the United States Navy.

The aircraft, an Airbus A300, was destroyed and

all 290 people on board, including 66 children, were killed.[1]

The jet was hit while flying over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf along the flight's usual route.

Vincennes had entered Iranian territorial waters after one of its helicopters drew warning fire from Iranian speedboats operating within Iranian territorial limits.

They respected us so much that these allies (NATO) were taking us for a ride. Now I guess they don't respect us but are paying more for their defense - you can keep the respect - fork over for their own defense - the free/subsidized ride is over.

Yeah, the US will move all it's forces out of foreign lands and massively cut its defense spending now!

The US military was/is stationed in Europe for USA's own interests, NOT to give Europeans a free ride.

Of course, Trash reducing US military presence is EXACTLY what Pootin told him to do.

Trash's "too expensive / EU/NATO must pay more" stuff is PURE BULL

And they have good reason to be. Why is Trump going to Helsinki to meet Putin? What exactly is he expecting to get out of this? I'm so sick of hearing him talk about how it would be great to good relations with Russia... Yes, of course it would be great, but the reason we don't have good relations with Russia is because of Russia, not because of us. Their actions can't be ignored.

He must be meeting with Putin to figure out how to get elected in 2020. It's clear you want to go to war with Russia.
