No offense, man, but that's sorta dookie. I wouldn't trade expirings and a pick for Demar, much less Kawhi.
Demar isn't dookie. And we have to consider they're might not be a better option on the table. The suspense is really over everyone's shoulders. Who knows though. I'd live with it.

Raptors talk is probably a way to get more bidders in.

Carter didn't refute the story, he tried to explain it away and did a horrible job. Essentially his take was: "Team paying player $20 million dollars to sit because of injury must give player advance notice before coming to watch him shoot baskets in a gym and train when they want to see how his recovery is going." That's a pretty dumb argument.
He also said that withholding medical records was a "power play" on Kawhi's part. So is there nothing in the CBA that gives the team paying a player the right to medical information pertinent to his ability to play?

This all seems like a leverage play by the Spurs to to get Philly and Boston to pony up. Kawhi would never agree to a long-term deal in Toronto. It would 100% be a one-year rental. Raptors aren’t dumb enough to give up major assets for that (although offloading DeRozen’s contract on somebody else would probably be pretty nice for them tbh). But not for a guy who would just bolt after a year.

I actually think Raptors do this. They are ready to give up on the $63M duo of Derozan and Lowry. Which is why they would be okay with losing Kawhi and getting cap room. If Kawhi resigns they get a younger and better player.

A better option is just not taking DeRozan. He's pretty much dookie.

I still give it a < 5% chance of happening but all of the recent moves seem to suggest that the front office is either hoping/planning to make amends with Leonard which means likely offering the supermax tbh....

Roster makes a lot more sense if you consider a healthy Kawhi at the center of it tbh....
No, the one telling move is that the leaks from the Spurs camp have started. That alone tells me they're done. They kept a pretty tight lid on things to try to work it out, and that's over now.

The "All-Star" may have been Lebron too, by the way. Pop supposedly wanted to meet with James, and that first meeting with Leonard was before the draft. The Cavs and Spurs (and possibly third teams) may have had something centered around Gasol, Green. Murray and 18 for James. James may not have agreed to opt in without Kawhi's assurances he'd stay, and Lebron's contract going forward would be large enough to where I could see PATFO wanting to negotiate a small extension to make room. I really hope that's not the case and they'd let Dennis sabotage it. Even doing that trade and just having them for a year would have been worth it.
I don't expect that Kawhi has cooperated with Spurs on this. IMO, this whole tantrum is bc he wants the full super max and not a penny less. To be fair, had he been healthy and in MVP mode, I would have dumped whomever needed to be dumped to make that happen (Danny, Rudy, Pau, Mills anyone in a big contract) and paid Kawhi his money. Kawhi getting hurt just soured this completely. How he handled it made matters worse. The Uncle influencing him complicated matters bc Spurs no longer trust that some demands come from Kawhi and not Dennis. Etc. Him getting hurt just complicated everything. And so I think that injury was real, though I don't know how serious and if Kawhi exaggerated or was hypochondriac about it or what. I think the injury cost Kawhi leverage and obviously affected his perceived value. He's knows it, (or Uncle knows it), which is why he tried to come back and play in March and he turned out to not be ready. Pop had already said they didn't expect him back for the season, so there was no pressure. What was that about?

Not enough time to heal these wounds before his career is over. Sure, in 20 years, maybe Pop and Kawhi work things out, but that won't save the current situation.

His wife and career aspirations ALWAYS had him headed to LA. We weren't even the best basketball choice, Philly was, but his wife hates the city.

It's interesting snake's group haven't yet hit back after that podcast, they've been surprisingly quiet.
About to drop the WoJ BOMB on 7/16 that he's re-signing back with the Spurs giving a middle finger to everyone that played hardball and didn't throw the kitchen sink in for him like they should have... Telling the Lakers: Psych!!!!!

    I know: it's a dream.

David Aldridge tweeted last week that a close friend of kawhi said the hiding in new york thing is BS
He hid from his team, coach, fans and the truth. Be nice to see a pic of his
face sans the hoodies and shadows.

What do you expect a close friend of Kawhi's to say? That he's a cowardly asshole?

That certainly is su ious. But why trash him? It will only decrease his perception publicly. Then rumors that they flat out have been rejecting offers at this point.

I guess uncle and nephew expected the truth not to get out and for the Spurs to just agree to a trade with the Lakers. Amateur Hour.

Good question... I'm not certain the team is the one leaking things. Maybe Mikey Wright felt things needed to be said.

I think they might have what they consider to be their best offer on the table, and some technicality is holding it up. Could be Philly, and since Zhaire Smith signed, if he's included they have to wait for 30 days from that signing.

Or, they've decided they're getting nothing, will keep him, force him to report, and basically leak all year long.

One thing is for sure: if they felt this was even remotely fixable, none of these leaks would be happening.

Kawhi is gone sometime between tomorrow and early July of next year when the FA period starts.

If the Spurs truly feel like the relationship is irreparable (as has been reported several times), then they may have already shifted into recovery mode from a Spurs PR standpoint.

Kawhi's camp has been trying to pin this all on the Spurs medical staff and their handling of the issue, and if Kawhi really is as good as gone, they need to protect their own brand.
