What I’m not understanding is if Leonard wants to go to the Lakers why he just doesn’t tell them “Sign me now or I’m open to signing with Boston or Philly”. Force the Lakers hand. Kawhitter is going to be one happy mofo with the prospect of coming to the Spurs with the possibility of spending the year here.

1. No one likes Lonzo. The only way anyone trades for him is if his father stays in LA.
2. So there’s a reason to flip a deal. If the Lakers had that much faith in their young players it doesn’t make sense to deal for Leonard this year. The Spurs aren’t giving up a Finals MVP and a 2x DPOY for players who will be mediocre at best. There’s no deal now, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t one later on.
3. It’s not insane for George to stay in OKC. Only a homer would think that. The Lakers have accomplished nothing in the last five years, even with high draft picks.

Regardless, the Lakers have allegedly moved on. If and when they strike a deal, all of this is just bluffing on the Lakers end. What’s fair to both fan bases are relatively and largely different concepts, but if the Spurs’ front office doesn’t think it’s good enough then it probably isn’t. I won’t take a Laker fan’s word for it especially with the bias and that tire fire of a roster the rest of them keep defending.

I like Pop and RC holding strong and there is zero reason to change their stance.

It's clear Boston or Philly are capable of making best offer, but only Philly appears possibly willing to really negotiate. Lakers seem to only want Kawhi if they can get PATFO to panic and accept crap deal. Sacto maybe a dark horse to keep an eye on. If a deal is made with TOR (hope not) would rather Spurs convince Raptors to go all in and trade for Kawhi while keeping Lowry/Derozan. I personally would rather package Kawhi/Gasol/filler or pick for JV, some combination of OG, Siakam, Richardson and picks/filler. Make picks for 2020/21/22 (which should have potential as Kawhi would have bolted for LA, Lowry hurt or moved on, and Derozan old.)

He has to play at least 30 games..

That is correct. LA is really screwing Kawhi over but he might not care since his people are pretty dumb at the moment. But it’s great for LA. They can fake like SA is asking for too much but really, they would prefer to get Kawhi in free agency because it’s so much less money.
