It is 80M. SuperMax to Free Agency is 80M.

If he’s sitting out, he will not get paid so it’s not guaranteed. Also, if he plays, and gets injured, sure, he’s made money but he still missed out on massive money.

LA is saying no thanks. If Kawhi wants to play there and willing to re-sign then it’s a slap in the face to not give up all the young players to get him.
You are looking at this with Silver and Black glasses on

Did the Lakers give up the farm for Pau? Nope. They shouldn't do it now either, knowing they can sign him for free next summer.

If the shoe was on the other foot you'd be shoulder to shoulder with me. And you know this maaaaaaan!

What farm? The farm that won 35 games with negative advance stats in which they lost their best young piece already?

222M is what he can sign for here. 139M is roughly what he can sign for there. That's over 80M
    Got it. Thanks.

Man he must be pissed off to the highest degree of pisstivity to leave that kind of loot on the table to get out of the 210.

They didn't have to give up the farm for Pau. Their boy Jerry West was on the other side, doing them a favor.

No such luck this time. Magic's tampering isn't working!

No I finally think you are realizing the logic and implications of what you are saying.

    1) Kawhi is disgruntled.

    2) Lakers have sucked, but this star wants to play there.

    3) He’s so pissed and hates SA so much he is willing to give up 40+M to leave.

    4) He will not be very happy that a bad lakers team, that can pay him 40M more by trading for him wont give up guys who barely won 35 games to get him and is forcing him to stay in a place he’s willing to give up 40M to get out of.

It’s not silver and black glasses; it’s reality.

You won 35 games - dont try and church it up. And Randle/Lopez who helped you win those games are gone and replaced with Rondo/McGee/Lance.

Yeah it’s just insane, which is why I think someone on Kawhi’s team will figure it out eventually.

I don't believe he will. I am of the opinion that he will sign with whomever he's traded to. Any team that acquired him can give him a 184M contract. If he goes to Philly or anywhere really he'll take the 184M as opposed to losing that additional 40M to go to LA. That's why the only real decision for the Lakers is: do you think kawhi is worth more than any free agent in the market next year? If so, you should trade for him if not then you shouldn't.

My bet for a while now is that he re-signs with the Spurs.

Holy cow look at this passage out of Philly

"For every significant player that is a star that we have the ability to get, whether that is in free agency or trades or developing Markelle, we are focused on each one of those players," Harris said when talking about weighing how to add more stars to the Sixers' core. "Not all of them fit, but a lot of them do. Certainly, if you sign them as a free agent, you get them for free. If you have to give up a lot of stuff, you factor that in and take that into account. Just from our point of view, we are on a great trajectory right now, almost without it. I think we certainly would add, and more than we would, we are really spending hour after hour trying to figure out how to add and try to manage those types of risks.

"Whether it be certainly a lot of the players you would trade for, there are risks that they are not going to be with your team, you don't necessarily have them on a long-term contract," Harris continued. "So we talk about this stuff endlessly and how to manage those risks. If the right situation comes, where we can acquire somebody that will really add value to our program, and the cost of it isn't prohibitive, then we will move forward and do that. If that doesn't come along for whatever reason, we will keep moving forward with our program. Just based on what we did this offseason, we are going to get better and move closer to our goal, which is that NBA championship that we keep talking to. If we get the right deal, we will do it."

It sounds very Pop and RC...they are not going to be played by Uncle Moneyloser.

I’ve been thinking this for some time. Make him play and if makes All-NBA (which he’ll need to if not offered the supermax this summer, which could still happen) give him the supermax.
A massive risk, because if he doesn't, there is no supermax and there is no resigning and no compensation. Also, there is a chance that he could be undeservingly missing out on DPOTY or MVP or First NBA team. Take 2 seasons ago for example. Third in MVP voting and probably deserved it over the stat stuffers. Missed out on DPOTY to Draymond Green. With Lebron in LA, Durant getting wins, Davis could have a massive year without Cousins, the NBA dollar elite could just let him slide out of the First Team, even though he may be 3rd in MVP voting, just to take away the Spurs big carrot. First teams are different from winning awards. Tyson Chandler won DPOTY once but didn't make the First Team in D.

In saying that, if he was to make the First Team, or win MVP, or win DPOTY, you would assume the Spurs are winning and obviously he is playing well. Playing well again and winning makes you happy. And there are plenty of times he is alone with the Spurs and not with his uncle. Giving the Spurs plenty of opportunity to network and get him back on board.
