Unimaginable abuse of pregnant immigrant women was just uncovered at Trump’s ICE facilities
On Monday morning, Buzzfeed revealed that at least
five immigrant women detained in ICE’s concentration camps have miscarried their babies while in custody and that their captors stood by and did nothing help them.
Multiple immigrant women, whose accounts have been confirmed by aid workers, have alleged that women in ICE and the Border Patrol’s custody are
“often denied adequate medical care, even when in dire need of it,
are shackled around the stomach while being transported between facilities, and
have been physically and psychologically mistreated,”
including
“an incident of physical abuse from CBP officers who knew they were dealing with a pregnant woman.”
When Rubia Mabel Morales Alfaro was caught by the thugs in the Border Patrol, they “threw [her] around.” When she told them
she was pregnant, they refused to believe her: “They said it wasn’t important, that it wasn’t their problem.”
Even though shackling is prohibited by both ICE directive and by Congressional order, a nurse who works with detained women in Texas says that
the women she sees are “almost always” shackled around their hands and feet, and often around their bellies.
Detained women must often wait days or weeks before seeing a health professional and are often ignored and neglected, even if they are bleeding profusely after a miscarriage.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar on Tuesday defended the department's handling of children who have been separated from their illegal immigrant parents at the southern border.
In an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Azar said the department is working to make sure the parents are legit — and so far, has weeded out five adults claiming to be parents who had either failed DNA tests or confessed prior to a DNA test.

The Government Is Reportedly Trying to Make Migrant Women Pay for DNA Testing
As if the family separation horror show couldn’t get any more dystopian, the Daily Beast reports that the
Trump administration has told at least four women separated from children at the border that
they have to fork up the money for DNA tests so they can be reunited with their kids, according to an advocate.
“None of them have the money [for the tests], so it’s going to fall back on us to push back on that,”
Ruben Garcia, the director of the immigrant shelter in El Paso, TX where the women are staying, told the Daily Beast.

Three of the women are mothers of the children, Garcia said, and the fourth is attempting to reunite with her brother, a three and half-year-old boy.
Garcia said that the tests likely cost money that many immigrants entering the country with little more than the clothes on their backs don’t have.
Iliana Holguin, an immigration attorney in El Paso who works with Annunciation House, said the government made some of her clients pay between $700 to $800 to prove their relationship to a relative as part of their citizenship cases.
“The government wants the parents to foot the bill for the DNA testing when they’re the ones that caused the need for DNA testing,” Holguin said.
“It’s incredible.”
