Not saying you are completely wrong, but....Mills and Belinelli were literally in the 2014 rotation.
I meant having all 4 of those guys in the rotation together..that's way too many non-defenders..

Also fyi, Mills and Belinelli were 8th and 9th in playoff minutes in the 9-man rotation in 2014, way behind 7th..

Forbes' and Bertans' contracts better have a team option on that second year.

People forget how Mills and Belinelli were outliers that playoff run.

Kawhi, Green were the main guys of the wings/guards in the rotation.

The next two more important pieces were Manu and Parker.

When games were out of reach and margin was significant, that's when Mills and Belinelli came in and did their business. When games were tight, Mills and Belinelli had very small 10-12 minute roles.

People value them as equals to the main parts of that squad and they couldn't be more off.

Lol here come the meltdowns. Bertans better than anderson can run faster and jump higher.
I would not say he is better but for our roster Bertans was the better fit.

All 4 of them will play together with Pau. You know it's coming. Pop doesn't have qualms with the weirdest lineups you can come up with. Expect Davis to be center at times too when someone is taking a night off of getting rested.

Patty may start but he will play a lot of minutes and will share minutes with others. I am hoping White gets at least 20 minutes this season but who knows? He seems a bit frail/prone to get bumps like Manu based on a small sample granted.

Its tough to get excited for next season thinking about these lineups.

I think Bertans has the potential to turn into more while Anderson is exactly who he’ll be the rest of his career

Manu, get off this sinking ship and enjoy your retirement. You deserve so much better than this , tbh.
Why should he retire? If he wants to keep playing, no reason he can't go play for another team that legit has a chance to win it all.

I don't really care about this playing for one team your whole career thing. Why stay on a ty team just so that you can say you spent your whole career there? If the team still had a legit chance to win it all, sure, but if they don't and you still want to play, go somewhere else that is more suitable.

Why the does he have to retire? People are just pushing him out the door.

So a little updated math for everyone after the Beli/Bertans deals and Forbes. I am having to make some assumptions, BUT if we conclude that the Beli 2/12 & Bertans 2/14.5 are both fully guaranteed 2 year deals and that Forbes is getting 2/5M fully guaranteed then SA’s cap situation next year (assuming nothing else is done this year which we know is unlikely):

    LMA: 26M
    Kawhi: 21.3M
    Mills: 12.4M
    Bertans: 7.25M
    Beli: 6.2M
    Forbes: 2.5M
    Lonnie: 2.7M
    White: 1.9M
    Murray: 2.3M

If SA just does what is in their control and renounces Danny/Rudy and any other cap holds along with waiving and stretching Pau, SA would have just over 17M in cap space in that scenario. This includes the hold for their first round draft pick and Milutinov’s hold as well.

So, if any of Beli/Forbes/Bertans is non-guaranteed or team options, that 17M will climb by their amount basically. Depending on what the Kawhi trade brings, anything less than 21M SA gets back in a Kawhi trade will add to that 17M amount.

And of course, any trade of Mills or others could add to that amount as well.

But as things stand right now, 17M is looking like the likely cap space number for next season. But if we find out that Beli/Bertans are not guaranteed or team options? That 17M jumps to 28M instantly.

This upcoming season isn't Kawhi's last of his current contract?

Technically no - he has a player option of 21M after this season. But for the math purposes of understanding SA’s cap situation if you assume most trades will have to be close in value to his salary (since the only teams with a lot of cap space to just absorb Kawhi aren’t realistic trade partners) then it helps with the math.

Technically, it's not. He has a player option for 19-20.

Yeah I suspected that. Thought it was going to be more unpalatable and worse for them if Bertans signed an offer sheet. If he did that, the other team can set terms Spurs don’t like. They couldn’t afford to lose him. Had no replacement for him bc he was signed with bird rights. Just got to congratulate him and move on.

Good call I think they could afford to lose him no problem, but they like him and there was compe ion from other teams and it was not like SA was bidding vs themselves. Hopefully year 2 is not guaranteed but it seems likely that it is.

Agreed that they do like him, but again if he signs an offer sheet they dislike very much it would put them in a real bind. Disagree with you that he’s easily replaceable at least this year. They can sign vet minimum players and have some small exceptions but it’s rough to get someone like Blossomgame or someone unproven to play at least 1500 minutes of non garbage time, when the team has no real depth in their bigs/forwards... whoever you sign in his stead is going to play for sure.

If they go for vets they don’t have much $ to offer right now and with the Kawhi situation, they aren’t going to attract ringchasers like they would have been able to do previously.

I dont think his second season is unguaranteed. If anything I expect it to be guaranteed but with a PO he can pick up at his discretion. His agent leaked he had a slightly better offer from another team on the table that he could sign and thus Davis doesn’t have any incentive to do the Spurs a favor taking a partial guarantee his second season when he already took less than he could get elsewhere.

BTW next summer there will be a lot if money around, Davis projects to play a lot more minutes than he did the prior two seasons, there’s a chance he increases his perceived value and he could be more costly next season with a hotter market if he were to decline that PO. It’s not a sure thing, but it’s possible. If the Spurs suspect that’s a possibility I’d expect this deal to have no PO.

Overall I am satisfied with his deal. He was signed at market value. Is a known commodity, they do like him, he fits in well and more importantly he’s playing a position of real need. This signing makes sense.

Just got to congratulate him and wish him a very good season.
