What an amazing run. Seems like yesterday that I was celebrating the Spurs picking the speedy point guard from France who I thought could be a good change of pace backup point guard for a few years before hopefully one day being starting material. Little did we know that he'd be thrown into the fire a couple weeks into his rookie season and play better than anyone thought possible. Handling nightly Pop tirades before he could legally drink, dominating playoff games against HOF PGs from his very first year, leading transitions from the Four-Down Era to the Penetrate And Kick Era to the Beautiful Game Era, playing with an unbreakable confidence in himself and an unbreakable trust in Pop's directions, and the list goes on.

If David Robinson was the foundation of the championship era, Tim Duncan was the backbone and Manu Ginobili was the heart, Tony Parker was the engine that made it go.

    Thank you.

I was a TP hater and that quote never really bothered me, mainly because I think most of us were frustrated by Kawhi’s disappearing act by that point.

Like others have said I have mixed feelings about TP leaving. I wanted him gone for years but he was criminally underrated at times. Thanks TP for the run and I’m sure he’ll get a great sendoff when he retires.
yeah you gave him a hard time for years

appreciate the post tho.. gonna feel weird to see him with another jersey..

. . . bittersweet / mixed emotions. On the one hand, he obviously didn't make sense on this roster, so they'd have either had to force feed him minutes or not play him, neither of which would have been ideal. On the other hand, it still would have been nice to see him play his entire career with the Spurs.

Not true...BUT...he did start cold. Up by 12 in the 4th like we were the previous year before we choked away the lead and the series. Thankfully, Parker was red hot in the 4th of G5 to close out the championship so it couldn’t come down to some missed free throws again. And that doesn’t even count the bailout in G7 of R1 to even get us there. Thanks again MVParker.

You give TP more credit for G5 than necessary. The Spurs weren't about to lose that game.

My point is that you never know...being up double digits in the 4th seems like a safe lead when it turns out you win. But being ahead by double digits in the 4th doesn’t seem like a safe lead in 2013 G6 anymore, does it?

The second season of Tony Parker's contract with Charlotte is non-guaranteed with a trigger date of July 4th, 2019, per league sources. It is also worth $5.25 million if picked up, so the deal is really two years, $10.25M, sources say.

1-11 and we were up by 20. Then he starts scoring with the game over thinking they're gonna give him finals mvp hahaha

highly doubt he thought that. he was getting all the same shots early, they just wouldn't drop. Each of the big 3 had their impact on that game. Manu early, Manu/TD in the 2nd, and then Parker. Whether the game was done or not, he got to keep the door shut on them in the 4th.

Long Pop interview for French newspaper l'equipe.. Pop speaking about TP signing for Charlotte:

Oh oui ! On sera amis à vie. Nos familles se connaissent très bien. San Antonio sera toujours sa deuxième maison, après la France »

In a nuts , pop said: we talked a lot about it... we wanted he ends his career the best possible way focusing on playing time... he's gonna play for one of my former assistant Borrego... tony is excited to play a mentor role for the young guys in Charlotte (especially Walker)... we obviously gonna miss him but he will always be a spur for life.. we will be friends forever.. his second home after France is San Antonio, his family is gonna stay in San Antonio.. I will see him regularly.. our families know very well each other...

    cool piece tbh

    It Still Hurts tho

See what you did there. Saying his job in the team was comparable to a doorman. Very subtle, give you that.

That game was OVER. Let’s not rewrite history. They weren’t coming back that game. Parker went into ball hog mode thinking he was gonna get his2nd finals mvp. Nope, didn’t work.
