Some private schools in Florida that rely on public funding teach students that dinosaurs and humans lived together, that God’s intervention prevented Catholics from dominating North America and that slaves who “knew Christ” were better off than free men who did not.

The lessons taught at these schools come from three Christian publishing companies whose textbooks are popular on many of about 2,000 campuses that accept, and often depend on, nearly $1 billion in state scholarships, or vouchers

SCOTUS has held that this is allowed. They draw a line between vouchers and government funding

Sure, it's a Florida Department of Education issue. They need to clean this up.

The state cannot overrule the supreme court. Otherwise it wouldn't be the supreme court or they would defer to the Florida supreme court.

    yes and no.

it's true that the state cannot overrule SCOTUS... but SCOTUS went so far to say that it is not a first amendment violation for a private school (with voucher funding) to teach religious subjects.

that doesn't stop florida from altering its own education standards (which would also apply to private schools). but states typically give private schools a lot of leeway

He didn't school me at all. He said yes and no. Getting Philo to say yes is a clear win for me.

There is a reason your unhealthy fixation on religion is largely ignored when you create threads, you're preaching to the choir. Pretty sure not too many people here are on board with teaching creationism in public schools however you seem to be overly concerned about it in areas that don't even affect you. The trend shows historically that creationism, Christianity and other religious teachings are going away, not getting more prevalent. It's not because of fat, pock faced, neck bearded atheist, self fellating takes like yours. As people are more educated they will make decisions for themselves.

    Lol unhealthy fixation.

If nobody responds to these threads, who cares? I lose what, a minute of copy paste time?

I just like to drop lines in the water and see what happens. I may get surprised with an unexpected funny wall of text from someone like you.

I'm an atheist and I've been so for a long long time. If there's one thing that's going to create angst towards your position and make people not listen to you it's being a zealot got.

I'm going to get flamed for this but here goes: since some of you are so enamored of Canada's and Finland's (?) socialist programs - why not advocate for the education dollars following the student? In Canada, my cousins' kids get to choose where they go: public school, jewish school, catholic school, etc. I would include virtual school, magnets, charters, homeschool [I know that's a downer here on this board] but don't I pay property taxes too and shouldn't all kids have equal right to an education? as well as CHOICE :-). You get to choose what's best for your child and compe ion (as opposed to being stuck in some low-performing, neighborhood school) ups the (at least) striving for better performance.
