I'd expect the Spurs to also receive either Poeltl or a protected (top 10?) 1st.

The starters would more than likely (unless Murray makes a quantum leap and Anunoby a slight one) have poor spacing and the bench will likely be poor defensively. Gasol would most likely continue to predominately start, since Gay would be redundant with Aldridge and DeRozan.

I don't think a lot would actually change in the grand scheme though. Instead of probably winning 55-60, finishing with a top 3 seed and having a ceiling of maybe WCF, they'd probably win 50-55, finish 4-6 and have a ceiling of WCSF.

The notion that anything changed in the past 3 days. Like there ever a point since at least the trade request (more likely, months before) where that day was going to come and the offer was going to be made.

Say what you will, but it always seemed unlikely that a deal would be done until the formal offer day arrived. Now that it has passed (like I said, the expectation were never that SA would offer it or Kawhi except) I think it’s way more likely we see a trade quickly (like next 7-14 days) vs something that drags into August/September.

If Kawhi is moved somewhere other than LA, I will hold off on calling LA idiots until after next free agency. But if they let that happen and Kawhi does not choose them in free agency, wow, what a huge mistake potentially.

Also it will be hilarious watching Kawhi walk to LA if he does go for so much less money potentially.

This is like The Ring - let’s let someone else watch the death tape and get it out of our hands.

Let's just say the deal is DeRozan and OG for Kawhi and Green. The 2 primary scorers on the Spurs will be mid-range maestros, and Murray doesn't shoot 3's. How do Spurs fans feel about the potential spacing?
OG shoots the 3 ball at 37% on almost 3 attempts per game. Feed him and let the mid range guys feast in the space. It also depends on who they start at the 4. If it's Bertans, you have a legit LONG range 3 ball shooter. Murray's shot also looks better in clips from this off season.

Also, as much as I hate Kawhi and hope things go awful for his career, I will double laugh if TOR gets Kawhi and beats PHI.

PHI, who lost 4-1 to BOS with no Hayward/Kyrie would, that also lost Beli/Ersan and signed no replacements or good stars, is really going to let TOR get Kawhi and catapult above them? WOWOWOWOWOWOW

I heard Danny Green would be a part of this potential deal with Toronto. If it goes down like that I'm not sure I'm happy about that. He's still pretty good on defense and his contract comes off the books after this next season. I'd prefer Mills be included. However, if they are receiving OG as part of the deal then I guess that would make up for Danny being traded away.

I'll believe it when I see it. Derozan is one of my least favorite players in the league but I'll take any deal right now so I don't have to listen to that Cris Carter or any other talking head mention the Spurs again.

To be fair, Windhorst is the one that described the offer "compelling", not anybody from the Spurs' camp. For all we know, offer could have been Lowry + steak sandwich considerations that got his ears all perked up...

It could be as simple as the Lakers not believing he would re-sign with them if they traded for him. I know Woj put it out there today that he still wants the Lakers, but this directly refutes what Michael Wright said on that podcast over a couple of weeks ago, and it's also curious that it seems like the Lakers pulled back on their offers around that same time. I'll say this: if Kawhi is healthy and would be a lock to re-up with the Lakers, I think they are making a big mistake by not offering Ingram, if that is indeed the case.

What have you guys seen that convinces you that he can shoot 3's well in NBA games? I don't ask this sarcastically, but it's not like he's played in Summer League and looked good shooting them. He only took 34 of them last season. In his rookie year he only took 23 of them. It's not quite the same as a guy like Lonzo, who kept taking them and who had a 29-game stretch where he shot 39% from 3. Murray isn't even taking them. I'm not saying he couldn't eventually get there, but it's certainly not going to be a given.
If you have White who is an excellent 3 point shooter, Bertans and Beli too I don’t see it being crazy.

Put it this way, SA should overall be slightly better at 3 than last year but you add DeMar’s scoring over Kyle’s. It won’t be a top offense for sure, but it’s wayyyyy better shooting than LA has and should be a top 10 offense IMO.

The defense is the bigger question mark as swapping Kyle for DeMar is a downgrade there. I dont’ think DeMar has it in him to be a plus defender.

But let’s say the most common lineup would be:

Murray/White/DeRozan/Bertans/LMA - not incredible shooting, but enough. Even more if you put Mills in for Murray.

The thing is, as I stated earlier, Toronto may be moving on from this core group, and trying to clear some cap room for next summer. Patty negates that. Danny does not. It's also not like Danny is 2014 Danny. This one can barely shoot.

I'm saying, given all that's transpired, that day was irrelevant and therefore unlikely to have any bearing on the trade discussions.

At this point, I'd imagine the Spurs want to at least wait out the U.S. camp, see if they can gain any traction with him. It's also somewhat of an opportunity for teams to gauge his health or at least pulse.

If Kawhi is moved somewhere other than LA, I will hold off on calling LA idiots until after next free agency. But if they let that happen and Kawhi does not choose them in free agency, wow, what a huge mistake potentially.

Obviously things could change in nearly a year, but at this writing, Leonard being traded anywhere but the 76ers (or Clippers, but they were never a viable option), is a win for the Lakers.
