Toronto leaning on a possible rebuild plan if Kawhi bolts after a year....probably the only reason they pulled the trigger on this. No way they were willing to take on Mills three years vs. Danny's one.
As we've been saying for weeks...the Spurs were bound to lose this trade with the position that Kawhi put them in. There was 0% chance of them getting even value.
It was all about mitigating that loss and I feel like they did a pretty decent job of it.

12 pumps and 12 pubes
Yeah, they ing are.
I don't think we are done with deals. Our roster balance is way off right now. I keep going back to the report that Pop had a plan to get Kawhi more help this summer if he stayed. Expecting another trade coming down the pipe with our wings and I'm guessing Gasol.
Lakers got better and Denver should be much improved if Millsap is healthy. 10 good teams for 8 spots. I think we might be the team that gets bumped out
This, TBH.
Spurs improved. A lot.
I was just thinking this. What happens if he refuses to show up for the physical? The trade is null and void no?
Kawhi is our 8-year-old daughter's favorite player. When we broke the trade news, she cried and cried. Then she said, "Can DeRozan play defense?"
Anyway, the Spurs gave up too much for too little.
Good luck, Danny.

Yes, i am afraid he will not show up or about an injury in his physical. Then, I hope Silver will step in.
You mean our guards? We have no wings of value outside Derozan![]()
That is truly hilarious . . .
Lol as if the Spurs care about "roster balance". Poop is going with the all guard lineup this year, people.
The simple truth is that nobody else was offering an All-Star caliber player. The other trades were about stacking prospect and 2nd rate players to somehow make it match.
At least the player we got will report to training camp. Same can't be said of Toronto.
Spurs played it safe. Offers could have been pulled with a bad Team USA outing. I never thought we would get OG and DeRozan. He was probably offered in packages with other Raptors like Ibaka and Lowry.
RC getting ing destroyed in this trade tells you all you need to know about his tenure as Spurs GM. Beyond worthless.
Was this the compelling offer fatass Windhorst was telling us about?![]()
Crap trade without OG.
They already had gone this far in the nightmare of sitting Kawhi, they should have gone all the way
Just a bad, bad day
He's not an All Star. Only a drunk fool would confuse an all star with a lifetime stat padder. The dude was BENCHED in the clutch vs Cleveland in the postseason. He was basically Kobe East.
Nobody has had to deal with this type of nonsense and no one had their star player basically quit on the team for an entire year. Do you really think if he played in a bigger market, he wouldn't have been eviscerated by the local media and fans, especially when you have a contending team. The Spurs protected Kawhi as best they could even though they were frustrated by the situation.
Losing a franchise player sucks for sure but based on everything that has happened, Kawhi and his uncle decided prior to this year that they wanted out of SA, period. That is the only narrative that makes sense to this ridiculous story that we as fans had to endure for a year. You can defend them until you are blue in the face but the Spurs have a known track record of taking care of their stars. Even with the unprecedented trade request by LMA, Pop handled it professionally and accommodated his concerns. In Kawhi's case, even with all the personal and team success somehow in his delusional mind the Spurs had done such a wrong that there was no going back. Give me a break.
As long as he ends up with as many rings as Kobe I won't be arguing with this comparison.
Masai Ujiri is a great GM, btw. Essentially cleared capspace for a chance at a chance with a top 3 player. Worst case, he gets that capspace, trades Kawhi for more assets, and still retains all his best prospects. Nice.
that list is re ed
forbes/white are not wings. bertans is a forward.
Well it worked.
