it is true Democrats were doing way way way better off attacking him for separating kids from parents.
I do truly believe he scheduled his meeting to distract from the Kids being separated from parents which was killing him.
If I look back at the timeline:
- the news that kids were getting separated at the border started around June 13
- there was a huge outcry and white house was pretty much defenseless
- Trump schedules his meeting with Putin around June 28 (it was announced around there)
I think Trump and team know they can use the Russia story to distract US anytime they want. That is why he is even working on scheduling a 2nd meeting.
The main reason why the Russia story still works so well for Trump: Hillary Clinton still gets mentioned.
