If Manu doesn't come back we have Murray and Mills as ball handlers. That would probably the two worst ball handling poing guards in the league right now

Um, Derrick White can also handle the ball and would likely soak up Manu's minutes (with Mills or Murray).

As much as it pains to say this the team needs to finally move on from the "Big 3" era. Start playing the young guards (not just Murray) and building them up with NBA reps (White killed in the G League and needs NBA time].

....Manu interacting with Derozan and Belli and Walker and White in a mentorship capacity would be great........

Don't get caught up in labels like PG, DeRozan and White can both handle it in the PnR better than any Spur on the roster last season.

Last year he decided on July 19th...so should probably be any day now.

I don't follow his social media much so unsure if he is still posting vacation pictures, but doubt we get an answer until that is over.

after hearing what pop said of walker (how his game reminds him of manu's game), it would be great to see manu come back as a mentor to him.

In some way or another the big 3 plus d rob should have FO positions. It's the best way we can recruit in the future for free agents and maintain a winning culture. Manu should come back to play back SF and mentor. Give him a raise if you have to.

If he does come back, he would be the last of the big 3 to depart.

I never would have thought that five years ago.

What I took from Pop's statements was that LW4 reminded him of Manu as a PERSON. Manu was more his own man than probably any other Spurs player who had a long career playing at AS level. He and Pop almost didn't click at all, and it was pretty touch and go for a while. Pop's a different guy now, though.

I think he sees a kid who is very intelligent and independent in his thinking.

I think Tony's injury rapidly accelerated his decline, and the combination of all of the young guards, and his almost complete inability to play D anymore made his departure necessary.

Manu's retirement, while fully expected, would be a solid kick in the nuts in a rough offseason tbh.

What is so funny? That you want a 41 year old to be a primary ballhandler/playmaker in the NBA?

I agree, that is a hilariously stupid idea.

I was thinking more in terms of Manu contemplating retirement every season since that time.

I thought he'd be the first of the big 3 to leave (retire).

No arguments from me on your point on Tony. Pretty much the same with Timmy. He may not have left in FA, but his departure was the result of his good right knee being injured.
