    People cheered the Kawhi pick.
You need to go back and look a the draft night threads.

But now you want to pretend it wasn't a pick.

    lol

It's also dumb to ignore that euro stashing is and was a cap management tool when the Spurs had large talent full roster

I’m not even gonna get sassy. I’ll just repeat it then. You said most teams draft well and then passed on giving examples.
I guess you didn't read the entire post.

Nice writeup. I can remember a lot/all of these drafts and recall many of the guys the Spurs passed over were exactly what I would call one of the "best available" during the Spurs pick.

Players like IT in 2011, who was a collegiate star. He was short, but damn he was fast and good. Seemed to me like a great bench spark plug, could have been like a Ty Lawson behind the then-still-good TP.

In 2013, Allen Crabbe was a clear best available, again snubbed for LJC out of Europe with an obvious buyout/restriction due to his contract I believe (had to stay there for a year perhaps). Perhaps they picked him because Tony like him but Crabbe was great in college and had good size to replace Manu eventually. Or even replace Green after he fell off.

2014: I liked Clarkson, no one knew Jokic would be so good, and Anderson turned out ok, so this to me is a push

2015: Montrezl Harrell was another best available and the Spurs passed him over to go for a guy who may not ever be anything in the NBA (Milutinov).

2016: Murray is ok, but Brogdon has arguably been better for his club (a starter) and was clearly one of the best available. Again probably a push, but Brogdon was a clear pick to me. Murray is still a project, and a PG who can't shoot or dribble is not really a PG if you ask me.

2017: Hart was a clear best available. Not as clear as some of the past ones, but damn good in college and still on the board. White, we shall see. But Hart was more polished and could have been already a better floor general than Murray (at least to get the offense running and not get trapped/picked).
I don’t know what to tell you. Hindsight is 20/20. The Spurs are probably aware of big boards and such but saw something in these players that fit the culture or system. RC mentioned White’s shooting percentages as the primary consideration for drafting him. In 2011, the Spurs whiffed on Thomas because he wouldn’t have any playing time on a team stacked with point guards. I agree they just drafted LJC probably because Tony liked him. The Spurs went the draft-and-stash route in 2015 to create space for Aldridge. In 2016 Brogdon wasn’t even on Bilas’ best available when the Spurs got around to make their selection. As for 2017 it’s difficult to make any calls as of now since White didn’t have a lot of playing time last year. I doubt the Spurs lost much by way of value and there was just no way they would’ve known the other guys they didn’t pick would do relatively better.

You can almost always pick one or two guys in the second round that proved better than a 28 to 30. That’s ridiculous and not the point. The point is that the Spurs have very consistently picked guys that have stuck in the NBA consistently some doing very well. Many teams have bombed on lower picks and none have consistently picked early second round picks, a few picks later than the Spurs, as the Spurs very late first round picks

You can argue 10-30, even. He’s blaming the front office for not drafting better with limited intel and a late pick. There are rational fans, there are spoiled fans, and then there are fans who want to manage a team like they play NBA Live.

Don't really see the point of listing Brogden as a miss anymore ... Is he even still a starter? Didn't they trade for Bledsoe and he lost his job?

Nice player, steady player, but even when he's a free agent next summer is he getting a starting job anywhere?

Hart love it just as weird. Pop was never going to give him a legit chance either, he'd be g league and summer league hopeful like White.

Pop won't be giving Walker any looks either, same with anyone else they could have drafted: Huerter, Allen, Robert Williams, Mitc Robinson ... They were all destined to sit and watch.
