I guess he feels athletic enough to be the SF?
I guess he feels athletic enough to be the SF?
mentally at least he feels 100%.
I expect a better year from him.
He may do well at PF again this year as the league seems to be staying with smaller lineups. On the other hand I think he will be tried at SF which would give us a pretty good offensive front line. Maybe he can improve on defense. That would be nice.
Great final line in the article. "They don't have many expectations for us," Gay said. "But the Spurs always exceed the expectations. Don't expect anything less this year."
It's a good article. I like how he says everyone on the team is playing with a chip on their shoulder. I think for the first time in many years we may even see Pop coaching with the chip on his. Could be fun year to be a Spurs fan. A group of misfits fighting against the super teams.

Everyone having a chip on their shoulder could be a good thing or bad thing. If the team starts struggling that could mean egos come into play. Luckily Gay and Derozan are friends but that still leaves the rest of the team trying to earn more money by their play. Hopefully they understand wins and efficiency will equate to more money. Chasing stats and individual glory will always be less satisfactory than winning championships for most.
Now that Gay is healthy I can see him playing some back up SF along with Bertans and Cunningham. I believe Derozan will play most at the SF and some at SG. Man. This will be interesting. Hopefully the 3 headed mid range post game of Aldridge, Gay, and Derozan can spearhead some inside out ball movement with the rest of our shooters. Murray being the important one needing to hit at least a corner 3 near the 40% mark for us to contend. Otherwise, White, Belli, and Mills should get more playing time.
Better than Fathead even with no Achilles, tbh
Good post. We can only hope Pop finally starts to focus on basketball again for his final years in the league.
Good to hear from rudy. If he is back to 100% he'll be very useful at the 3 and 4 in any lineup coach pop wants to run
I just want him to feel like he can reliably knock down threes at an above average rate. This team will need ALL the outside shooting we can get.
Better defense wouldnt hurt either. If he can do a passable job against Durant and Lebron we might have something worth getting excited about.
We staaaaacked.
Seriously though...Gay was alright last year and gained momentum later in the season, but he never quite looked like his past self. Missing time with a separate hand injury didn't help his cause, either.
It's incredibly difficult to come back from an Achilles. That's why it has been encouraging to see him participating in so many offseason basketball activities. It means he feels confident in his body again.
If he can come in and play at even 90% of his pre-injury level this season, it would give the Spurs a huge boost. Aldridge/DeRozan/Gay is obviously not a perfect combo...but they are good enough to win a lot of games and be dangerous.
This is what I'm thinking and it will be fun year! Just the idea of the team being on the same page will be a major plus.
I'm telling you if we stay relatively healthy this year *crosses fingers* I see a lowkey angry af team coming out the gates.
I think it's great he feels back to normal, but Pop still needs to hold him back from reinjuring anything (including anything that overdeveloped bc he was laboring). He should be minutes restricted to 25 mins / game max IMO, otherwise he will be at risk of reinjuring it/making it a chronic thing.
Would be very interested to see this lineup. You could switch everything but on offense it'd be a struggle with limited 3pt shooting
Gay finally understood the power of the Dark One and was gifted with renewed health as a result.

Just punk kwitter and the Raptors and I’m good. That’s if the pussy even shows his sorry ass in SA.
Now imagine DJ a better, more consistent shooter at the 1, and White contributing solid minutes from the 2 along with a solid bench presence from Poeltl at the 5.
That's an upgrade at all three spots, not to mention DD is an immediate upgrade over a ass punk in Kawhrisis.
Should be lots more compe ive than we were at times last year. Especially if we have that chip.
Can't wait.
He's 32; that's iffy, tbh. I do think we'll see some improvement though.
