More pressure on DD with no Manu. Hopefully he sticks around like Timmy. His presence alone is a huge difference maker.
Dos o mas . . .

God damnit. Well its been a fun 18 years Spurs, but if Manu is done im done with San Antonio.
Can I get a name change?
You didn't even understand what I said. First, it's obviously about the money in the that Tim wanted and got $6 Million. By the CBA, a player retiring defaults to no money. Second, that has almost nothing to do what I said, which is essentially that Manu isn't going to hear anything from Pop that will make him retire. Pop is always going to play Manu off the bench if he's there. That's what the "bar of soap" comment meant. Pop's not going to say "This year, I'm not going to play you." He just won't, even if there comes a time where he should. If Manu is really waiting for Pop to help make the decision, it's because he wants to come back.
But yes, Manu has been the most insecure about his role with the team out of the Big Three. Easily. Not remotely debateable. Only folks who disagree never really paid attention before.
To be honest, if the Spurs are counting on Manu for more than 15 minutes a game (and him playing 2/3 of the season), they are in trouble. I think the only reason why they need him is for locker room leadership, but again, I don't know how much of a presence he has in the locker room now. For selfish reasons, I'd like to see him go out and have another season like last year, where for about 6 or 7 games in the year, he does some great stuff that makes you miss what he once was. But for him, why bother? Kawhi just left and this team isn't beating the best teams in the west. He's getting paid regardless if he plays. Why not step aside and let the young players have their chance? Why not spend well-deserved time with his family. He has no shortage of basketball-related options to him after retirement.
I remember when Brent Barry called it quits. He had a bunch of offers to keep playing. Teams always need shooters and leadership. But he said that if he played, it would mean another young player not getting a chance. He figured he's sit and let the next generation have their time. Manu is probably starting to feel the same way.
Either way I'm happy.. He comes back we celebrate him for another year and he feeds Poeltl with the 2nd unit on the pick and roll, he leaves and the future starts now. Win win IMO.
This would kill my excitement for the NBA outside of every day gambling purposes, unfortunately..cheering for a team with Aldridge and Gasol was tough enough, but then losing Manu/Kawhi/Green/Parker while adding Gay and DeRozan?
Disgusting![]()
I don’t blame him. Patty is all that’s left from the 2014 core. Marco too but he wasn’t here long enough.
Pretty fitting for a depressing offseason
He has the rest of his life to do everything else. This isnt your typical job or typical player either, it's something that he truly loves, that he has dedicated his entire life to, and that has set him and his family up for life. It'll probably hit him super hard when it's over.
Look at this roster, it's as hideous as it gets in the NBA..
The 2 stars: Aldridge, a crybaby who asked for a trade because he didn't get enough touches..DeRozan, a man who is acting like he's the first player in the history of pro sports to get traded..he's on a depression tour across the continent, crying to anybody that will listen..
The other high-usage player is career cancer, Rudy Gay..the starting PG can't shoot, pass or dribble, he's only a star on IG..
They brought back the worst defensive wing of his generation to come off the bench, and I won't even elaborate on Pau Gasol's lazy, ostrich-looking soft ass..
Hopefully White and Walker actually play, otherwise this is an unwatchable team..please come back, Manu![]()
There are 29 other teams you can go watch, tbh.
That's dumb, fans shouldn't be content with mediocrity and an unwatchable product..
Well what are you suggesting we realistically do... We were blindsided by our re autistic franchise player’s trade demand and we were placed behind the 8-Ball. PATFO don’t have many options. They screwed up the Patty and Gasol deals, but there’s not much they can about this offseason, especially with San Antonio not being a desirable Free Agent destination.
Fans of like 22 NBA teams are...
that is what football is an unwatchable product
beat your wife girlfriend 4 game out so much for you do you out
he also was out 4 games last year for ped use.
Criminals
wonder if gay would accept the row off the bench like manu
It’s clearly about his role and the teams plan for this season...
“Unwatchable” yet you will watch and live on this forum like you always do...
Stop pretending you know so much...
Don't get this. Why would a player work for this new season if he's gonna retire? I think the meeting with Pop is just to confirm that the team still needs him as vocal leader in the locker room to transmit Spurs culture to the young guys and the new players in SA like DD and Jakob.Ginobili has been working out regularly in the Spurs practice facility in preparation for the season
However, if Manu's retirement means more minutes for Derrick White and even for Lonnie, I'd like it. Maybe its time to retire...
The fact that he will talk it over with Pop before making or announcing his decision shouldn't be news to anyone. Either way he decides, I would love to be a fly on the wall during that discussion.
I love Manu but it’s time to move on injury free!
Of course he would, he came off the bench most of the season.
