I have no doubt there are more Dems than Repubs but over 25% more - I don't know about that.

No need to cushion your view of my critical thinking skills or lack thereof, but I do appreciate the lack of vulgar language - I never did understand why people need to swear to make their point. I'm not the one who posted the poll, but once it's posted, it's fair game and it seems hardly anyone checks who is in the poll. No one knows what's going to happen until the votes are counted.
Well, I suppose it depends on where the random sampling happened. If it's somewhere in the North East, only 25% would probably look fishy. If it's twitter, wouldn't be surprising either, young/tech people generally identify with the left more.

Point being, it doesn't really invalidate the poll or it's results, but just like anything that gives you partial information, it's never definitive or pretends to paint a full picture.

The typical Repub candidate would not be able to take the attacks that Trump is taking. I'm not interested in a Pence-like - Christian (would never survive trying to reconcile his faith with political survival), moral, etc. type. Besides, we don't look to any man as role model - that'd be God.
The typical Republican candidate wouldn't brag about sexual assault, lust after a little kid on video, defraud a bunch of students with a fake university, hide his tax returns, suck up to Putin, be unable to get credit from American banks, be surrounded by a bunch of felons in his inner circle, appoint family to high positions, on the first amendment by trying to convince America the free press is the enemy of the people, endorse a child molester for the senate, give away classified information to Russia, etc. off with trying to normalize this pos.

Every single item I listed were self-inflicted wounds. So it's not that he's being unfairly attacked or anything, he's laying on the bed(s) he made. But waiving it off as just attacks from the opposition is just part of the hypocrisy and double-standard.

All that said, I certainly do love the fact that a solid chunk of the electorate seem to have decided that social conservatism is dead, and no longer a litmus test. It was about time, IMO.
Social conservatism isn't dead. They're about to get abortion eliminated in red states.

It's just not a litmus test anymore. While a Pence government would be a terrible thing at so many levels, he couldn't win a national election with today's electorate.

Of course he could, what a ridiculous notion. Especially if the Democrats field another crap candidate like Clinton. Pence would get enormous evangelical support, college educated conservative support, and he's a smooth enough talker that he wouldn't turn off undecideds nor drive large liberal turnout.

He couldn't win the rust belt, or Florida, IMO, and that's basically the game. I would even add PA. He's just as bad a candidate as any other career politician, with the added negative that he would bring religion to the forefront, which generally plays terrible outside of evangelicals. I do agree that Shillary was a terrible candidate and anybody has a shot against her, but against any other candidate, he just doesn't have the populist message... I would bet even on Mark Cuban beating him in an election, tbh...

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that it's because a string of poor life decisions led to him becoming a broom pusher in a computer shop.

Trump sucked up to evangelicals every bit as much as Pence would, and you act like Trump is the only one beating the anti-immigrant drum. The GOP's white iden y politics didn't begin with Trump, they have been at the forefront since Palin. What you call populism looks more like blood and soil nativism. Plus Pence would have three huge media empires behind him with Clear Channel, Sinclair, and Fox News.

What I call populism is not America-first, patriotism, etc. It's the imaginary bull that he's going to bring back manufacturing jobs (dumb Rust Belt and PA resonate with that stuff), the anti-globalism, etc. Not immigration, not white iden y politics, etc.

Republicans don't have enough to win on their base alone (neither do the Dems). What won Trump the election can be resumed as the empty promises he made to the Rust Belt, which also resonate in places like PA, and barely squeaking by Florida.

Despite the fact that those people know Dennison is a fraud when it comes to that, Pence literally is your traditional Republican. He doesn't have the cred to pull off the anti-globalist meme or sell that bull from the get go. All those big media guys you listed were ready to roast Trump after the election, until he won.

I also think Florida was a state Shillary just lost herself for being a terrible candidate. Don't want to take anything away from Don, he won it fair and square, but 150k votes difference considering the damaged goods that was Shillary, I just feel a slightly less known candidate could've made up the difference. You also underestimate the effect of in bency, IMO, Pence running now would be much more complicated than coming off 8 years of Dems administration.

Obviously, all opinion, I respect yours, but I also have mine.

I don't know man, immigration always seemed at the top of the list when I'd see voters in Clinton's rust belt firewall polled when reading fivethirtyeight.com in 2016. Am I remembering incorrectly? I could be. Pretending to crack down on illegals is pure mainstream Republicanism.

"crack down on illegals is pure mainstream Republicanism"

the oligarchy has screwed the non-oligarchy, esp those in the bottom 2 quintiles.

To deflect from their own sociopathy as the real culprits responsible for screwing over people,

The oligarchy tells 1000s of lies, decades of racist propaganda, to scapegoat illegals, Mexicans, Welfare Queens in Cadillacs, "young bucks", as cheating, lazy criminals,

giving the white people, Repugs and Dems, on the bottom someone to look down on,

so they can tell themselves they aren't the bottom,

"there's somebody screwing me and (I'm told that) it's Those People"

And what bags do we get?

Stephen ING Miller, and ing racist JeBo,

the oligarchy's very own versions of a Hitlerian ethnic cleansers.

    Measuring Presidents’ Misdeeds

During Watergate, historians helped catalogue accusations made against past Presidents; their findings may be useful again.

These days, even Nixon’s underhandedness begins to look upstanding.

William McFeely, now eighty-seven, and retired from the University of Georgia, covered Andrew Johnson and Grant.

“I think Nixon was pretty bad, but I think that even he had a respect for the Cons ution, and for a cons utional sense of the value of the Presidency,” McFeely says.

    “Trump trounces on those.”

Woodward, reviewing the 1974 findings, made a list of never-befores:

“Heretofore, no president has been proved to be the chief coordinator of the crime and misdemeanor charged against his own administration as a deliberate course of conduct or plan.

Heretofore, no president has been held to be the chief personal beneficiary of misconduct in his administration or of measures taken to destroy or cover up evidence of it.

Heretofore, the malfeasance and misdemeanor have had no confessed ideological purposes, no cons utionally subversive ends.

Heretofore, no president has been accused of extensively subverting and secretly using established government agencies to defame or discredit political opponents and critics, to obstruct justice, to conceal misconduct and protect criminals, or to deprive citizens of their rights and liberties.”

Trump has already done some of them—

not secretly but publicly, gleefully, and without consequence—

and is under investigation for more.

“However much Richard Nixon deserved impeachment and the end of his Presidency,” he says,

“what he did does not match the Trump Presidency in its malfeasance,

and in the depth of his failure as President.”
