Student Loan Watchdog Quits, Says Trump Administration 'Turned Its Back' On Borrowers
The federal official in charge of protecting student borrowers from predatory lending practices has stepped down.
In a scathing resignation letter, Seth Frotman, who until now was the student loan ombudsman at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, says current leadership "has turned its back on young people and their financial futures."
The letter was addressed to Mick Mulvaney, the bureau's acting director.
In the letter, obtained by NPR, Frotman accuses Mulvaney and the Trump administration of undermining the CFPB and its ability to protect student borrowers.
"Unfortunately, under your leadership,
the Bureau has abandoned the very consumers it is tasked by Congress with protecting," it read.
"Instead, you have used the Bureau to serve the wishes of the most powerful financial companies in America."

Sen. Chuck Grassley Pleads Trump in Bizarre Tweet: ‘U Can’t Let’ Don McGahn Leave White House

@realDonaldTrump I hope it’s not true McGahn is leaving WhiteHouse Counsel.
U can’t let that happen :lo "Lock him up!"
9:53 AM - Aug 29, 2018
It was reported earlier this month that
McGahn had been cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller,
which may have something to do with his departure from the White House.
Why Grassley would want McGahn to stay – and why he would say so publicly – is unknown.
Politico’s Jake Sherman has a theory:

initial reaction from the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
It seems like the White House leg affairs office — which is building back up at the moment —
has not informed key stakeholders about this massive decision
average is two high level resignations or sackings per month.
I think the only saving grace for this administration is that it is too incompetent to do as much damage as they would like to do.

NYT: Trump Asked Porter ‘Several Times’ To Replace McGahn As WH Counsel Last Year
President Donald Trump asked former White House staff secretary and alleged spousal abuser Rob Porter several times if he’d be willing to become White House counsel last year,
Porter told Trump that he didn’t believe he was qualified to be White House counsel.
Trump surprised the current White House counsel, Don McGahn,Did Trash have the balls to "surprise" to his face?
when he announced Wednesday that McGahn “will be leaving his position in the fall, shortly after the confirmation (hopefully) of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.”

the heat gets turned up on Andrew Cuomo, like DJT surrounded by swamp creature felons:
https://pagesix.com/2018/08/29/cuomo...into-his-case/A prominent law firm that formerly represented Harvey Weinstein handed over a $25,000 check to Gov. Andrew Cuomo‘s campaign six days before the governor called off a probe into the handling of sexual misconduct allegations against the disgraced movie mogul, public records show.
The hefty contribution from Manhattan firm Boies Schiller & Flexner came on June 20, according to records on the state Board of Elections website.
Less than a week later, Cuomo called for a six-month halt of state Attorney General Barbara Underwood’s investigation into Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance for deciding not to prosecute Weinstein for a 2015 groping incident.
The temporary suspension was ordered to avoid interfering with Weinstein’s ongoing criminal case.
Ray Nagin goes down:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...cing/12397415/A jury convicted Nagin of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes — money, free vacation trips and truckloads of free granite for his family business — from businessmen who wanted work from the city or Nagin's support for various hurricane recovery projects.
Prosecutors asked the court to send Nagin to prison for a long time. They argued that he was found guilty of 20 of 21 counts in the indictment, and that he participated in and orchestrated a years-long conspiracy to enrich himself and his family.
http://fortune.com/2018/08/29/leaked...s-ian-m-smith/Smith is the latest in a series of departures from the Trump administration with alleged ties to white nationalism. Last week, Darren Beattie, a speechwriter and policy aide to Donald Trump who in 2016 attended a conference attended by white nationalists, left the White House, CNN reported. Richard Spencer and Jared Taylor, along with the anti-immigration white nationalist figure Peter Brimelow, also attended the conference.
A day after Beattie was dismissed from his post at the White House, Brimelow attended a gathering at the home of Trump economic adviser Larry Kudlow, the Washington Post reported. Kudlow said he was unaware of Brimelow’s white supremacist affiliations.
Another one bites the dust. More sexual allegations. Family hasn't been kind to the GOP reps in the last 24 hours.

Hopefully she runs against Trump in the primary.
she's non-white, non-male, wouldn't have chance.
Yeah, those rednecks in South Carolina would never vote for her.

SC is a ty little slave state, a pimple on the national electorate
One can only hope.

The Spurs have a better shot at winning the le this year.
Nikki Haley could be positioning herself for 2020, she could to be getting out in front of this....maybe both.
https://www.postandcourier.com/polit...e4f7ad7a1.htmlA federal government watchdog asked the State Department on Monday to investigate whether U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley broke any regulations by accepting seven flights on private jets from three South Carolina executives last year.
it's hard to picture Nikki Haley primarying a sitting president from her own party, much less winning. how could she ever live it down?
CosmicCowboy, let me know if she visits Iowa.
