Segregation as a basic concept doesn't make sense. Though ESPN did put out an article a few years ago that argue black folks didn't have as much access to pools because of how urbanized the population is. I don't know how much less likely it is for a black person in a given neighborhood to be able to swim than it is for a white person in that same neighborhood. When taking into account the current income disparity, I guess I could see an argument. Even public pools often charge a few dollars to go in, and to a poorer person, that could be prohibitive. If all that is true, racial relations do have an effect, even though there's no de jure segregation to blame.
I've always wondered what would the south (passionate for football) would have done if they still didn't allow black players.
Just look at that video of the guy throwing chemicals into the pool while black people were swimming. That's all the proof you need.

My parents took me to swimming lessons because we lived by the beach so it was done to keep me safe
My black friends were just never into beach culture - scorching hot sun and sandy body/clothes. Then the salt dries on their dark skin and it looks ashy
