Gay just remind me so much of Horry..
After seeing Lonnie on the court, yall think he'll get good time on the court this year?
Only if there are injuries... And if Forbes/White flop big time.
Don't think Lonnie will replace Forbes? Looks like that project failed imho.
I just think our perception of Forbes isn’t the same Pop has and he’s very likely to get a lot of opportunities until it becomes absolutely clear he’s not an NBA player, or the opposite: that he is. I don’t think he’s considered a failed experiment or he wouldn’t have gotten a 2 year deal.
Walker looked very good. He only had one shot that didn’t look good. Everything else was on target. Good enough handles and solid defense given it’s so early. Hard to see how he doesn’t get time with the Spurs.
Don’t understand the hate for White. He had a couple of turnovers but otherwise played a pretty solid game imo.
Biggest surprise - How well Forbes played.
Biggest disappointment - How bad White played.
Of note is Walker has a tendency of playing better when playing with better players. He will get some minutes at the NBA level particularly if White continues to play so badly.
timvp started the thread about player pairings that indicated Forbes was substantially better than the common perception on ST.
What is that Facebook thing you all talking about ?
IT CAN'T BE HE SUCKS BECAUSE I SAID SO
Very matchup dependent.
Belinelli is coming out firing, and I don't think that is any coincidence. He is shooting way more than he did during his last stint with the Spurs, and even when he was with Sacramento or Philly.
It may just be because it's preseason and the games don't matter so he feels like he has a green light...or it could be that the coaches are grooming him to be our Manu Lite and be a bench gunner. Time will tell...
Probably Pop telling him to go ahead and gun.
agree, Bertans also seems to have that same freedom
didn’t watch so still haven’t seen lonnie in action. looking forward to seeing him vs an actual nba rotation.
Possibly, but the chart he posted isn't that specific. For his averages to be as good as they are, he would have to have some scintillating performances to offset the pitiful performances that have shaped his reputation.
Small sample sizes, in specific pairings. Very bad when paired up with Mills and Tony since he's then a wing matched up with bigger guys. Remember Rodney Hood lighting him up? That's more significant than garbage time but you can't separate the two.
Context. Numbers are pretty to look at but context and matchups matter. New eason, less defensive players next to him matters. I will have to be convinced this season.
Yeah, I will be, too. I was just amazed at the pairings numbers for Forbes, and I'm just kind of being devil's advocate with you. I doubt he will ever become a plus performer, but I will keep my fingers crossed. Pop sees more of him than anybody; he must see something in him... ?
He's a special shooter in practice. Needs to be that good every night to get steady minutes.
The team needs shooting bc their main players don't shoot the 3 in sufficient volume. So he's going to get plenty of opportunities. I think it's possible that the impact you see is a reflection of context. He had a positive impact bc the starters were so starved for spacing and shooting that a somewhat good shooter will bump their offense a lot, more than his individual skills absent context would warrant otherwise.
Considering the SL is still starved for shooters he might still be a positive pairing with some guys. I don't know if you grasp what I mean. If no one can shoot well enough on a particular game in the starting lineup, he may come in hit a couple of 3s and impact positively immediately without him doing much of anything else great. But pair him with undersized guards and what he does offensively isn't going to be enough.
Not sure his impact on the bench is the same since they have a lot of shooters already and poor creators and several small guards.
I am now expecting Dex to change his avatar bc it wouldn't surprise to see Forbes start a few games.
This goes beyond reputation. He's been a negative player for the Raptors in every year of his career except 2010-11. No point going back that far but here's his last three seasons.

Bryn's first year was 2016-2017. He was in school in 2015. I imagine you're talking about DeRozan, but that's off-topic as .
As I've said, Bryn's analytics are actually great. Guys apparently don't score well on him when they actually shoot. Dunno if that's the result of help that leads to others having bad numbers. The pairings don't suggest that. Some of his team metrics do, though.
I just want Walker to play. I don't give a crap about him spending time in Austin. I know he's not as polished as Donovan Mitc was as a rookie, but if multiple people are touting Lonnie to be the next Donovan Mitc , I want to see him playing now. Give him some real chances throughout the season and see how he goes. If he doesn't do well and shows he's not ready, then maybe send him to Austin later in the year.
Oh, and I forgot the main reason I want him to play - I believe he has a lot more defensive potential than almost all of the other wings in the team. With his size, strength and athleticism, he has a chance to be a really good defender, so that is the main reason I'd like to see him getting court time. I want to see if he can start out focusing on defense and go from there. This team badly needs perimeter defense on the wing.
I really do wonder, if Donovan was on the Spurs last season, would he have played and become the player he did for Utah in SA, or would Pop have not played him much at all?
