in A. That sucks. Lonnie seems injury-prone so far in his young career. Hope he bounces back long-term like Timmy and Westbrook did from the same injury.

Hopefully this doesn't turn out any worse than Curry's ankle. Before often forget that Steph had his career stuttered by injuries for years. It wasn't just getting behind the eight-ball for a season. He was hurt so much that he was convinced to sign that tiny extension because he couldn't trust himself to stay healthy. I hate that Walker got reinjured, and I hope he and the team are doing what they should be doing for his long-term health. Just saying that starting off a career being injury-prone doesn't mean that player can't overcome the injuries enough to reach his potential.

Miami freshman Lonnie Walker, a five-star prospect from the Class of 2017, tore the meniscus in his right knee during practice Tuesday morning and will undergo surgery later this week.

Walker, a 6-foot-5 guard, was a McDonald's All-American coming out of high school and thus is one of the most heralded recruits in Miami history. He's projected as a top-15 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

"I promise this will not slow me down," Walker tweeted Tuesday night.

With that tweet, Walker's already said more to his fans than Kawhi did for months when he was out.

Did you not make it personal first?

If it's any consolation, I don't care about your personal life. I already know it's probably pretty sad.

Of course you care -- you're asking specific questions about it.

Never heard of a "medical meniscus". Is that a new body part? Did he mean "medial meniscus"? Maybe the Spurs staff is looking in the wrong areas.

I think with the time frame they predict that it's a minor meniscus tear(radial or flap) where they make 2-3 holes and shave out the torn areas. The healing will be for the pain and swelling. Usually those types of tears won't have a blood supply, so no long term waiting to heal. Then general knee conditioning and strengthening to get back in game shape and prevention of another injury.

A meniscus repair is when they sew up a bigger tear that is deeper and has blood supply and is able to heal but the waiting to heal part takes longer. Those types of tissues take a lot longer than muscles to heal due to poor blood supply. Lonnie may have had this surgery at Miami, it may not have been completely healed or the area where it was repaired may not have blood supply thus the torn part of the meniscus was just sewn together. Then a small piece may have frayed off in the Detroit game, causing the injury he has now. Just a guess though without seeing the MRI report.
Thanks for this insight into these types of injuries.

Don’t drink the koolaid. To disparage the Spurs medical staff is to come down on the side of Cris Carter and The Group.
Yep, you and Daslicer are right. Nothing the Spurs medical staff could have done about it if he didn't show any signs of it bothering him.

Metta was old AF and way overweight by the time he got to LA. He was never the same because he was OLD.
No, he was playing a lot better before the got the meniscus removed. He dropped off a cliff after he came/rushed back.

He's the highest pick since Kawhi, and Kawhi played a great deal. Granted we didn't have much else at the 3, but still. He could've played more than the usual rook does
relax, we're soon to get higher picks

Well Curry got those “bionic ankle bracelets” to help with his weak ankles.

There’s really no telling how Walker goes from here. There’s the range of players from Westbrook to Wade to Rose unfortunately.

Its just a real bummer. And takes the hope he could compete this season for minutes, which was already very small, away. There’s no guarantee he doesn’t get hurt in the Gleague either. He got hurt in a practice in college and summer league. Moreover his injuries were not caused by heavy contact.

Sucks but he was never going to get much playing time anyway with Pop's rookie doghouse bull . Still really disappointing as he looked to be the most athletic Spur on the roster.

Are you predicting a ACL tear because that tore up Rose right knee.

Not good to have players get banged up in the preseason. Get better Lonnie!
