Was there ever a less loved Spurs player than RJ?

He did all the things to enrage a fan base.

He performed well as an opponent.

    Then disappointed as a Spur.

Then won a le with yet another rival adversary.

He was the bridge to nowhere in a lull between two Spurs dynasties, both residing within the overall ecstacy of the Tim Duncan era.

RJ and the Spurs were just oil and water, star-crossed from the get go.

    Agreed with everything but this:

He performed well as an opponent.
My two biggest memories of his career were missing those two free throws with Golden State in Game 1 of the 2013 Second Round and getting picked badly by Manu in the 4th quarter of Game 6 of the 2003 Finals.

Still my least favorite Spurs player ever was Steve Smith. I was dying laughing in 2001 when he was on a max contract and threatened to hold out unless he could get a new contract from Pop. GTFO HITA.

RJ did finally have a good run in the 2016 Finals. Without that, Golden Showers may be sitting on four in a row and counting.

What's semi sad is that I sorta liked him before he was a Spur. But he was God Awful as a Spur.

He mailed it in, because they wouldn’t do a new contract. An engaged SS gets us past LA one year earlier. We stole a game in LA, but couldn’t finish.

There must have been personality issues for that to happen. Not just bad performance.

The funny part is I know RJ and Timmy were decent friends off the court. On RJ's podcast he had Tim on there the year TD retired and you could tell they had a good relationship. I think the Spurs players liked RJ just fine, it was the fans that had issues with him. I think Timmy's shove was a brotherly move that I've done with my sibs 100 times on the court.

I'm not sure he was ever that consistent of a player, I think his weaknesses were more exposed on a team like the Spurs.

Ever notice Gregg literally ruins careers? Jefferson played a fairly important role on a championship Cavs team, years after his debacle with the Spurs. Beno played well after he ripped loose from Gregg's reigns. Dwest played A MILLION times better under Kerr than Gregg. I'm sure there are lots of other players I'm forgetting as well. Didn't Nando tear up the Euroleague after he escaped Gregg, too?
I know you’re a troll, but you’re forgetting all of the players whose careers were resurrected in San Antonio. Pop is famous for taking fringe players and making them successful. That’s how the Spurs have maintained their success all these years...by maximizing the potential of their role players.

Troll takes just lessen the collective IQ of Spurstalk. I hate trolls.
