America’s first black billionaire gets police involved after hotel refuses to check him in
Bob Johnson is the co-founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET) and the official first black American billionaire.
He’s a prime example of what some in this country call “proof” that racism isn’t a real issue anymore.
But as WPBF reports, on August 24 of this year, Mr. Johnson could have had all of the money in the world, but to the check-in attendant at Eau Palm Beach, a five-star luxury hotel,
he was just some black guy with expensive prescription sunglasses.
After giving his car to the valet and his bags to hotel staff,
he was asked for identification for his two-night reservation.
According to Johnson, he gave them three forms of ID:
an American Express card,
a Florida driver’s license, and
his government-issued passport.
But that wasn’t enough for the hotel employee,
who said he needed to take off his sunglasses.
She told Johnson she couldn’t and wouldn’t check him in unless he did.
According to WPBF,
police came, but were unable to broker a “compromise,” and
Johnson left.

A white woman called the police on a black man who was babysitting two white children after she reported that she feared for their safety.

The video, posted Wednesday by Facebook user Jason “Stovetop” Littlejohn,
begins with the woman standing and talking on the phone as the boy’s small sibling is heard crying for his mother, who was also present.
“The son grabbed my ass,” the white woman told the police operator. “And she decided to yell at me.”
“I just was sexually assaulted by a child,” she said moments later.
As onlookers made a commotion on the street, people began walking up to check out the scene. At one point,
another white woman walked up and, in the direction of the woman on the phone, exclaimed “are you seriously calling the police?”
“Cornerstore Caroline” was calling the police because “a little kid brushed up against her and touched her on her butt.”
At two points in the video,
the woman who called the police on the child identifies herself as a “cop.”
