I don't get people that complain about "free healthcare" (aka paid with tax dollars) when we technically already have "free healthcare" (aka paid with tax dollars).

Why is it a human right? Well, ask Reagan, who came up with that after hospitals were literally paying to dump sick patients out. Ron Paul basically tried to argue he would go back to that and that was pretty much the end of his presidential run.

It's not going away, so the discussion should really center on how to make it more effective and especially less costly.

For starters, an insurance system that only covers the relatively healthy pool of people while it dumps the risky ones to the taxpayers hasn't been a solution to the problem.

Would be amazing if he follows through. Then again he has also in the past said Medicare should negotiate drug prices and that we should be able to import prescription drugs and he never followed through on either of those once elected so I'm not expecting much.

The law restricts access to medicine, restricts who can practice medicine, and restricts how one can practice medicine and heath care. Rightfully.

As a compromise to these necessary guidelines, and because we can absolutely afford to do so, a developed nation should provide access to basic health care based on means. Restricting health care to only those who can afford it, especially with affordability being a byproduct of the legal requirements placed on medical providers, contradicts a basic human right to Life (if you believe such a right exists.)

In practice, we already provide "health care for all" through ER's. Better public access to preventative health care would ideally reduce those visits and the associated expense.
