can't wait for Tony to drop 30
can't wait for Tony to drop 30
Definitely something to monitor.
But the season over season numbers is where it will really show up when this team plus Murray is on the court next year. I think there shouldn't be so many changes like we had this offseason.
Plus, I expect the numbers to improve some even this year as the season progresses, for a few reasons:
1. White will be back in a few weeks and he plays decent defense.
2. The team will grow defensively as the new teammates learn the system.
3. The team will grow defensively as the entire team gels into a more coordinated help defense. Certainly helps to have LMA back there as the anchor.
Just athought, this team could be decent in certain rotations on D. But lord help us if LMA goes down. He is covering up sooo many mistakes right now, really since he got here. He's every bit the stud we needed when he was acquired.
Oh, and Kawhi.
I was reviewing old game notes from last season when I came across a western pg power ranking I made that SA's DJ/Fiddy Meals rotation hypothetically had to eliminate to advance in the postseason. Obviously it still applies for Forbes/Fiddy. I updated it for 2018-19 rosters. Lastly, it's ranked according to my team strength ranking, not the listed players, and only covers my estimated western playoff teams. Feel free to update/tweak/ with it.
1. GSW - Stephen Curry/Shaun Livingston
2. UTA - Ricky Rubio/Dante Exum
3. HOU - Chris Paul (no sub because Harden is really the pg for the starters and Pringles only plays 8 guys anyway)
4-6 OKC - Russell Westbrook/Dennis Schroder
4-6. DEN - Jamal Murray/Isaiah Thomas
4-6. NOP - Jrue Holiday/Elfrid Payton
7-8. POR - Damian Lillard/Seth Curry
7-8 SAS - Bryn Forbes/Patty Mills
7-8 LAL - Rajon Rondo/Lonzo Ball
8-9 MIN - Jeff Teague/Tyus Jones
Quickest takeaway is Fiddy won't be a net negative playing against Denver's IT, New Orleans' Payton, Portland's Seth Curry and LAL's Ball. At least we ing hope not. Forbes will be a net negative playing against all his counterparts, except maybe against Rondo during a hot Forbes shooting streak.
Needs update... Donovan Mitc .
Teague got to the basket quite a bit in second half against Forbes...
Spida Don plays the 2. Rubio's sub is Exum, who might give Holiday and Beverley compe ion as the best defensive pg in the west.
I wouldn't rank a PG rotation of Forbes/Mills ahead of either Rondo/Ball or Teague/Jones.

nobody would do
I don't either hence my disclaimer that I ranked it according to my evaluation of team strength, instead of pg rotation strength. Originally, it was a guide for me to see who a Dejounte/Mills rotation would see and need to beat in the first round, etc.
In the same vein, I also didn't want to make a similar starting backcourt comparison simply because there's no profit in it for the Spurs. With all the star shooting guards in the west, stacking them up against a true Forbes/Fiddy backcourt with Derozen relegated to sf is a very bleak picture. I don't know why we still keep seeing Forbes and Fiddy played together, in clutch stretches no less, except to guess that analytics chief Goldsberry keeps whispering in Pop's ear that Morey's volume shooting strategy for the tandem is a net positive on paper. Forbes and Fiddy as a backcourt is a recipe for disaster.
This is where Murray will really be missed.
Ive been waiting for Tony to drop 30 lbs since 2014, never happened tbh.
Our starting PG is injured, tbh... what are we tracking this against?
Next season. Patience, grasshopper.
Well, he dropped 27 on 79% shooting on the best defensive PG in the NBA...in 2017...in the playoffs...in a closeout game.
followed by another 50 from McCollum ...

Someone watched all Teague's possessions. In esse, Teague scored a bulk of his points on Mills instead of Forbes. The lack of defense at point is concerning but it's irrational to pin blame on Forbes solely. Watched the game and it wasn't for lack of trying on Forbes's end. Forbes got paid a contract befitting a bench player and as a shooter off the bench but is now being tasked to do more than he's asked. It's horrible luck for two PGs to go down with the injury bug but I'd still like to think the staff does the best it can with what little it annually has.
White will be back long before the playoffs.
We need to hold open tryouts if rondo /ball kill us
well a picture (in this case a video) says more than a 1000 words or so they say...
Patty is like if you were unguarded... Forbes makes more of an effort but he can't keep up and the body language is bad.
Oh, they will. in Dinwiddie and Deangelo Russell would drop 40 on this backcourt.
Lilliard and McCollum ting on spurs tonight.
Game 2: D. Lillard 9-15fg, 29pts in 30 minutes
Lillard also had zero turnovers
He felt zero ball pressure.
