The wall isn't even necessary. You can discourage illegal immigration in many different ways. Getting rid of anchor babies and punishing employers severely would be great first steps.
Less illegal immigration than the past isn't a sound argument. The issue can still be a problem.
If Trump would enforce existing law, employers could be punished.
To get rid of "anchor babies" (native born citizens in common parlance) you'd have to amend the US Cons ution or get SCOTUS to overturn a century and a half of settled precedent.
