Beto might have done it his way, but that doesn't make it a winner in Texas

They had one this year, and he was endorsed by several major papers. TX Republicans just didn't do the research. Always going to be hard to primary the in bent unless the national party puts a concerted effort behind it. That won't happen with Cruz because he'll do or say anything if it makes the right people happy.

Good run for Beto. He made it closer than it had any business being, and his presence on the ballot probably flipped several state offices (and likely won Allred his seat.)

With the Senate staying in Republican control, his winning wouldn't have mattered much. Now he's free to go on a two year national tour registering new voters for 2020.

I think this closeness was more about Cruz being awful than O'Rourke being any good. The downballot was supposedly better than normal in Texas for Dems too which is either a Cruz sucks (my take) or pro-Beto lifting them up

yep, and the Repugs gaming the Cons ution to buy 2 Senators cheaply in all the tiny population, rural states means the Dems have an eternal uphill fight to win/maintain control of the Senate.

    What a stupid turd.

There wasn't even a Republican Party till 1854.

They didn''t write the Cons ution.

say kicker, try to leave the 19th and catch up to 21st

Obviuosly (to literate people), I wasn't talking 19th but 21st century, redneck

MODERN Repugs been gamin' the antique, oudated, badly written Cons ution to control, and abuse, the Senate.

Sooner or later as urbanization, migration to the coasts continues, 30% of the population will provide 70% of the Senators, aka, minority rule.. that minority is owned by the oligarchy, the hated "elite", the minority just doesnt know it

    Wyoming average IQ = 102.4
    California average IQ = 95.5

I'd say the checks and balances are working as designed...

thread upstairs got locked but still wanted to reply

Illegal immigration is a pressing matter for low skilled Americans. Blacks the hardest hit by it. But Dems have thrown them under the bus.
I’m sure unaffordable health care, the prison industrial complex, and failing public schools are much more pressing matters for the average african american.

Student loan debt is the result of the decision of the individual.

What's their big education plan? Free college? That's a massive waste of money. Most college degrees are unnecessary. We don't need more gender studies degrees. Most people are either under employed or go into areas where their degree means nothing. We don't need to pay for college because companies want filter people by a piece of paper. Companies are already adjusting. Self educated people are going to be able to get good jobs without formal education in the future. That's outdated.
This is disgusting that all the responsibility is placed on the students, and universities should be let off for gouging middle class america for, as you said, overvalued degrees.

Republicans get off on shooting down dem ideas while resting on their upper class laurels. What are republicans suggesting to help this situation?

Yes, healthcare needs to be fixed but not necessarily with Dems plans.
    What’s the republican plan?

“yeah, copays are ridiculous but please don’t marginally increase our taxes”
“basically if you don’t have a job that offers great private insurance then oh well, should’ve ‘worked harder’”

    disgustingly inhumane tbh

Ultimately like I said their high taxed welfare system
providing basic necessities to survive =/= welfare state
