I mean, White starting at the two was a pretty big possibility even before the injuries. The Spurs getting away with this as much as possible would really help their rotation in the long term.

I have to disagree with you there. He's been relatively passable on offense but overall, he's clearly the worst player on the court at all times.
He's starting next to DeRozan, Gay, and LMA so it's not surprising he's the weakest link. His presence alone helps spread the floor for a lineup that offers little 3 point threat. Cunningham provides defense, but adds little to the offense. (So he and Dante could be equal in terms of 'worst player' out there depending on what you value)
Having 2 other ball handlers on the court now could take that off of him and allow him to get more shots coming off screens and moving without the ball.
With Gay out, do we have one of the worst benches in the L? This team just keeps losing guys.

They are listing him as a SG simply because White will probably handle running things on offense.
On defense, they will still matchup according to size, so doesn't really matter.
