It isn't fair to count K-mart. The Spurs only signed him as a 'warm body' late in the season, just in case of an injury disaster during the playoffs. Everybody knew his career was over.
Martin's effect on the Spurs was pretty negligible though, especially when compared to Bonner's and Ayres' reign of terror. I'd say Joffrey had much more of a negative effect on the team than Martin.

It's what I feel for Forbes.
I’d take Matty back over half the losers on the roster right now.
better than Purdllll for sure
Bonner only seemed ty because he was playing a lot of minutes to make up for the depth our frontcourt had from 2009 to 2012. Once the Spurs improved on the front(Duncan, Splitter, Diaw, Baynes), he was a respectable 4th or 5th big. I'd easily take Bonner over Poeltl right now.
Even Prime Bonner would have struggled to play in this NBA. His whole thing was that he was (and still is) that rare stretch-big who could legit guard his position. Matt wasn't an elite defender by any means, but he was a big, stocky dude who guarded the post well and could follow the game plan. If he were on the team now, Bonner would be arguably the strongest player, but he and Aldridge wouldn't really work as a combo. Neither would be good on the perimeter, and Matt wouldn't punish the other team enough to make them reconsider playing small. Bonner was underrated in his time, but he was still a man OF his time.
But I liked him because he, more than any other player I've seen, embraced being a scrub. It takes a lot of humility to poke fun at himself the way he did with like Coach B. I would love to see a player with his at ude in today's social-media age. Combine that humility with the fact that he really wasn't that bad and that he had a career anyone could be proud of, and I just made for a good dude to have on the roster.
Mills took his place a lot of hate came Bonner’s way when he had to guard centers like Shaq. The dude was. PF not a center but I do agree he should have been let go 3 years before he was.
Kyle Anderson
He has fans and was never overpaid, overpriced, nor did he cost you anybody else. You still had Simms and whomever else Pop wanted to pick up while he was in the team. Was never overplayed the way some of PATFO pets are and he played a lot last season bc Kiwi was being a . Hate is irrational and he didn’t deserve the level that he got. He was pretty good last year for a limited roleplayer and seems like a nice guy.
I just get tired of going against the current here which just has to have some pet to hate.
I think my level of hate has to be on Paddy. He’s good enough to play a role in a good team, but he got overplayed and over relied on a ton and the Spurs held on to him for longer than they should. He’s decent some times, in a role with about 20 minutes, more than that you ask for trouble...
Nah. Even in 20mpg Mills is awful. He is the new Bonner in the sense that he should be the 5th guard at best, but he's playing a backup role.
That’s exactly what it is. He’s the new Bonner: playing too many minutes for a player of his skill level and we used to give Bonner the same ire. And then people are going to say that his role is fine because injuries happened, but his ing contract doesn’t reflect that. He was going to get major minutes because we know Pop likes to justify hefty contracts.
Yep. You don't give a guy 50 million to be your 3rd or 4th guard. PATFO apologists are delusional.
If anything, giving 50 mill for a guy who should be deep on your bench makes the FO look even stupider.
I look at it completely different. What you saw as humility, I saw as having no shame. I hated Bonner's at ude because he was goofing around, coasting making millions while actual hardworking people in life struggled to make ends meet. That he consistently performed miserably in the playoffs and yet still held on to a spot every year compounded the issue. He was overpaid for what he did and extremely overrated by fans here, IMO. I'm not just a Bonner hater, I legitimately think he's one of the worst NBA players I've ever seen and it's apparent to me that he would not have been offered any NBA contract if PATFO waived him at any point in his Spurs tenure.

Pop always needs to have one of those on his roster. There is always one guy on the roster who's clearly not an NBA player. Sometimes it's even more than one (BP3, Joffrey)
This year, it's Poetl and Forbes but at least with the former, he was a top 10 pick with a track record of decent play from last year. Forbes, on the other hand, is literally costing the team games now. And as much as an All-Time great coach I think Pop is, his stubborn dedication to these types of guys is incredibly frustrating and counter-productive. "Character guys" aren't all G-Leaguers in NBA clothing.
I can't even ride with this a little bit. Bonner was likely way better at his job than you are at yours. Probably by several orders of magnitude. You're showing a huge lack of perspective when you try to bring in "actual people" into this. First, Bonner did his job. He came into work every day and fulfilled his contract. What he does in his free time is not a reflection of his work ethic. Parker was a rapper; Manu was a columnist; Duncan was an ATM for his cheating wife and crooked financial adviser. People have hobbies, no matter how hard they work during their day job. Second, Bonner was simultaneously the strongest player on the time and one of the best pure shooters in franchise history. I can't think of another player where that is true, and it totally speaks to how hard he worked.
Bonner would have been in the NBA for years had the Spurs cut him when he still hard tread on the tires. Jarell Eddie was in the league for three years, and literally the only NBA-caliber skill he had was shooting. Back when Bonner played, people were starting to realize how important stretch-bigs were, but high schools hadn't caught up to the changes yet. It was a rare skill-set. Guys like Spencer Hawes and Anthony Tolliver were getting work. even Scrub-dog Byron Mullens got a long-term deal because he could shoot. Of course Bonner would have been in the league.
Real Plus Minus is not up yet this year.
My early season default is Hollinger PER VA.
Admittedly "wrong" under SG, Bryn Forbes is 45th out of 70. Not near the worst in the league, but 31-60 = backup quality. BTW DeMar DeRozan is #1, Marco Bellinelli is #40.
So far this year, worse than Forbes, in worst to 46th order:
Avery Bradley
Allen Crabbe
Terrance Ferguson
Seth Curry
Reggie Bullock
Ron Baker
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Malik Beasley
Bruce Brown
Ian Clark
Eric Gordon
Alex Abrines
Josh Okogie
Jaylen Brown
Kyle Korver
Gerald Green
Andre Iguodala
Glenn Robinson III
Jamal Crawford
Dillon Brooks
Grayson Allen
Langston Galloway
J.R. Smith
Donte DiVincenzo
Tomas Satoransky
Those fit the eye test.
All positions, Forbes is 198th (7th man quality), between Wayne Selden and Emmanuel Mudiay.
The worst players in the league so far, 319 to 315:
Avery Bradley
Allen Crabbe
Terrance Ferguson
Josh Jackson
Ryan Anderson
You have no basis on which to compare his work ethic to mine. NONE whatsoever. That really shoots down your whole argument and you're oblivious to your own lack of perspective on "actual people" into your Bonner defense. My job actually makes a big impact on people's lives. I, on the other hand, can judge Bonner's body of work because he was seen on TV for people to see. And I saw poor to mediocre work, especially in the playoffs. You can say he gave an effort but there was never any improvement whatsoever when it mattered the most. He was basically in the way and the very definition of human victory cigar.
You've never been an athlete at any level, right?
I've run 6 marathons, including the New York Marathon at under 3 hours: 2 hours and 52 minutes, to be exact. I'm also a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu.
Agreed. He is even worse because he is massively overpaid and was signed for a lot of years (I would have been fine with 2 years at 25 millions as a thank you contract. But 4/50 is a lot.
Mentally he doesn't seem to understand that he has to do more than taking and towel waving, he was singed to improve, and he didn't.
He doesn't seem fit at all. And has clearly regressed on defense from tolerable to .
The only reason I would still play him (and if pop is doing this I would be ok), is that considering this is a lost year, and he has a contract with a important figure if he somehow plays a great 3/4 months maybe you can trade him for something of value, and that way you just lost a bit less than expected.
Let's face it, we are going nowhere add of now, so if you can showcase Patty (or Forbes) and the do well (miracle needed) then you could get something for nothing.
And you pench press 500 pds. Don’t forget that.
What the is a "pench" tbh? You're a smart Trump supporter...
That's Pop's way of showcasing his genius: by turning a bunch of untalented and unwanted scrubs into NBA champs.
