Considering they're playing Cun and Pon, yeah, they miss Anderson. It's hard to pay him so much if he won't actually try to be a plus on offense, though. He'd be the third-best big on the team right now, and had the team known Forbes was going to be a regular starter, they could have made Anderson work with DeRozan and Aldridge. Still, I understand letting him go, because they needed a better SF than Kyle. They just didn't get it.
To my mind, the money choice was Kyle vs Bertans. Kyle is filling 27.3 mpg. Bertans is filling 16.8. For a difference of $400,000 this year. This was a bad decision, especially, as to my mind, Kyle has far more potential.

I don't know if I can call what Kyle lacks potential anymore. Dude had so many chances to show he could start using his talent better, and he just didn't. He's not doing that in Memphis either. I don't think you can really argue that an Anderson who never improves is worth such a long commitment. Like having a defensive ace if cool when you are constantly over the cap, but when you're talking about using space and rebuilding, it just seems harder to justify Anderson taking up guaranteed money. He'd likely be an upgrade to Cun, but I don't have much doubt at all that if Kyle were on the team instead of Bertans right now, that there'd be people complaining about the decision, and the Spurs' record would be really similar.

Kyle Anderson has been an abomination in Memphis so far this year tbh. Good riddance to that overpaid scrub tbh.

Not sure why this thread was bumped tbh..

He had the defensive impact on Giannis that a wet fart would. He went off for 31/9/4 on 71% shooting. Fathead was just fortunate that he had the superior team. Gasol and Conley scored 55 and Jackson Jr, Temple, and Mack scored double digits.

I miss ol' SloMo. He was unexciting to watch but, every night you could count on him for both defensive and offensive rebounds and some nights a bunch of them. He always had one of more blocks, steals and assists. He was Hi BB IQ. We could really use him and Danny Green right now. Defense is pretty much non existent with this stew team.
he would be the only player on that roster who really fits this description, unfortunately he has a very low engine

Glad he’s not in the Spurs tbh.

He was under appreciated when he was in The Spurs and got “hate-mail” most of the time.

He’s now in a different team and still gets hate-mail.

I will say it again, I am glad he’s helping a different team.

Was he even covering Giannis? According to the box score, Jared Jackson was the starting PF (matching with Giannis's position), and Middleton was the "match up" with Anderson. Given Anderson played a team high of 39 minutes for the Grizzlies, I'm guessing their coaches thought he was doing something right...

Did not bother watching this game between two pretenders, so I'm not sure. If he was checking Middleton, then he did a horrible on him as well seeing as he went for 25pts on 50FG%, which is his second highest scoring game of his season.

The real benefit of Kyle playing in Memphis is that I no longer confuse Anderson and Derrick White when on the court...

I confused all 3 of Forbes,White and Anderson. All of them have giant craniums but tbh, I rather have Kyle than Patty or Bertans. At least Kyle is playable on a 47 wins team while Bertan can't even see the court on a team going lottery.

Kyle is an elite defender. I don't know how he does it without any kind of athleticism or speed. I guess he makes the most out of his IQ and length.

I would say Anderson was the primary defender on Greek Freak (even though Jaren and Temple guarded him some as well) and Freak destroyed Anderson. He couldn't come close to guarding this guy.

Even the few times he was on Middleton he was killed. Includes Anderson getting beat on a drive, fouling him on a 3 point shot, and getting beat on a backdoor cut.

Pretty much anyone who drove on Anderson got by him in this game. If Anderson wasn't the Grizzlies' worst defender in this game he was pretty close.

Not really. The Grizzlies were without Dillon Brooks, JaMychal Green, Omri Casspi, and Chandler Parsons due to injury plus Jaren Jackson was in foul trouble so there wasn't any other options at the forward position.

to be honest, the freak is doing this with everyone in the league, especially now that the ball manipulator can play ball of intimidation is the refs never see the obvious offensive fouls

That was always his weakness. If a guy was in front of him dribbling or whatever, he had deceptively quick hands and could get deflections/steals. Obviously a good thing.

But guys would drive by him a lot too, cause he just lacks lateral quickness/footspeed.

Grizzlies have won 6 of their last 7, Kyle averaging 34 MPG and 2nd on the team in on/off metrics during that stretch..they're finally putting the ball in his hands after a poor start to the season, averaging 4 APG in the past 7..

The usual 8 RPG + a steal and a block per, looks great..never going to be a good scorer, but they're beginning to use him correctly..
