Then why did Green say he wasn't the first option lol
I haven't heard exactly what Danny said, in context. Coach Nurse described the play in the postgame and he stated explicitly that the play was for Danny, as the first option.

One thing to like about Danny is that he is so much a team player. Maybe he just never thinks of himself as the #1 guy. After the recent crap with Durant and Draymond, and Butler, etc. it's a wonderfully refreshing at ude.

Danny definitely doesn't try to be the star of the team, even if he acts like a total celebrity outside the game. Dude has played with Shaq, Lebron, the Spurs' Big Three, Leonard and Lowry. There's a non-zero chance that GS lets Klay walk and convinces Danny to take the MLE next year. He seems to really hate having a spotlight on him. Any time the press tries to tell him how well he played, he brushes it off. Just the prototypical role-player.

I have to side with Mirrornick on this one. Green said he wasn't the first option on the interview after the game.

Also, lol at the dumbasses that wanted Green out. They are the same idiots that wanted to give a scrub like Jonathon Simmons a multi-year multi-millon dollar deal.

Happy for Danny. We know he would still be scrubbing it up here in this current offense, but Toronto is getting more out of his skillset now.

What I heard Danny say was, the play was for him to cut for a layup, but he had to settle for the jumper when the defense trapped him.

Danny will be the odd man out when Murray/LW4 are playing at full speed, and Poeltl has a lot of upsides as a center, cheaper and at 23yrs old. I’m happy for Danny but the move was inevitable imo.

While giving up Danny was obviously extremely re ed and I disagree that the trade could have been any worse (if RC had given up a pick instead of receiving one then he should have just been fired immediately), Danny would absolutely be trash on this year's roster.

We have nowhere near the playmakers that Toronto has and Nurse has already put in place a better system than Pop 15 games into his coaching career.

Knowing current Pop, Danny would have been relegated to Bryn's water boy this year even if he hadn't been traded out.

    +1. Sad but extremely true.

Has anyone mentioned Danny League has never iced a mid-range fadeaway game-winner over three defenders on Pop's watch? Because goddamn 31 year old Danny is killing it up north.

    The coach said he was.
I tend to side with the players on this plays. Pop said that he draw that Duncan three in 2008 when Manu and Duncan, both, said that he didn't.

I hate Kawhi more now. I was really pissed he was part of the trade. Danny wanted to stay in sa. He loves the spurs. But we traded him cause of nephew's drama. Ugh. So much garbage.

The play looked pretty clear for Green. Kawhi didn't sell his decoy role very well, so if he was actually expecting the ball, it would have been hard for him to get a shot. You gotta give Nurse a ton of credit for going with Green down the stretch, given his relatively poor night. I can only think of three designed game-winning attempts for Green in his Spurs career. Maybe four if you count that play against Dallas when he was a garbage-time guy. They must really like him there.
I haven't been impressed with Nick Nurse at all this season. Raps are winning based on talent.

As I said, this was good for Danny and the Spurs, tbh... Danny needed the motivation of having to earn a paycheck again, the Spurs needed to move away from a guy that had no reason to improve and be aggressive...

What a coincidence that two players basically spending their entire professional careers in the GOAT PATFO's system, left for dead the last 3 seasons or sice Duncan retired, are thriving once again.

Not in Pop's system. He'd be just another broken down player getting pulled out of games for missing a defensive assignment

Terrible take. Tbh. But I get your point. Would've liked to see Derrick White more since he is our best perimeter defender. Pop has to play him more but if he can't mesh with DeRozan then it doesn't matter.

It was funny watching him post up, they've actually allowed him to do it several times this season and he has looked surprisingly competent at doing it.. Nurse is giving him a lot of freedom..
