People on this forum, underestimate how much Pua means to the team --and overestimate LaMarcus contributions, but he knows how to play basketball.
I do think it's a bit much to argue that folks have to apologize to Gasol, but Pau gets unwarranted hate. Dude's an HoFer at the end of his career. He's making too much money, but in the middle of the season, that doesn't matter. There's no need to pretend like Gasol is worse than he is just because his contract is higher than we'd like. I'd argue that Pau going down is what has exposed Beli as having a bad offensive year. Those two had great chemistry. It's a damned shame that the injury cropped up right when Gasol was in his best stretch of play since 2017. I also don't get why people are so keen to act like having a foot injury means Pau is breaking down. Dude has been pretty durable throughout his career, and his numbers are comparable to those of Tim at the same age. Duncan's age-38 season saw him playing 77 games. It wasn't until Tim's knee finally gave out that next season that everything fell apart. Unlike Duncan, Gasol doesn't have a chronic injury that he's trying to work around. There's no reason to expect him to not be healthy enough to play until he's 40-plus.

Bench is missing Gasol big time, which is also the reason why LA plays so many minutes. Poeltl is nowhere near Gasol's level. And Gasol was playing hard this season, I don't think I've seen him play this hard since he been here. Especially in that Lakers game where he had the put back dunks. Team definitely needs him, especially when they play opponents with 2 big line ups. The Aldridge/Gasol 2-man game was a big reason why we won 47 games last season.
Because he’s a big man with foot problems related to wear tear and aging. I don’t expect those problems to have a magic fix. It’s actually kind if revealing that after a few games in which he was dunking (remember the Pau offensive boards and dunk in his last or next to last game?). It’s unfortunate bc he was playing his bench role really really well and I think he was impactful in those last wins b4 he got injured, but next thing you know he’s in a walking boot with no expected date for return with soreness. I do think it’s related to his miles, his long career including international ball, and simply the weight a tall man like him puts on his feet when he plays basketball and jumps. I am not saying he’s done but no need to apologize to a player that’s not playing and who I believe to be close to retiring. Father Time is undefeated

I’m not hating on Pau. But this trend is not a tribute to Pau’s bball achievements. More his future HOF, he did outside of Spurs organization (worse he was instrumental to Fakers unfairly getting b2b rings). What we could’ve used his salary for? Dedmon and Kyle maybe? I appreciate his contribution to bball and he was great, but again that is not what think this trend is about. His last contribution as a Spur is as a bargaining chip to land a defensive big.
HoFer isn't a statement on Pau's career. It's a statement on his talent level. Just like how Tim was still really good for a long time, Pau is also still a very good player in a part-time role. That's why even as an old man, he's still in the top-five bigs the team has had since Robinson retired 15 years ago (with a strong argument that he's fourth and a pretty good argument that he's third). He's actually quite a bit better than Dedmon, so "losing" Dewayne (which for the millionth time is not true and a dishonest take) wasn't a big deal. There's a reason why the Spurs didn't really try to keep Dedmon (even ignoring that they choose Gay over him), just as there was a reason why they chose Bertans and Gay over Anderson.
Anyways, this has little to do with his contract now. This thread isn't about how much he's paid, but how important he is to the team. There's no reason to worry about how much he makes at this point. All that matters is that the team could use him healthy.

Do you know that his foot problems are due to wear and tear? Someone immediately project Pau has having a broken foot a week ago with an estimated recovery time of several weeks. Whether the Spurs are reporting it as that or not doesn't mean they don't have a real timeline. As I'm sure you can appreciate, they are reluctant to give one. Anyways, it'd be much more concerning for Embiid to have a broken foot than Gasol right now, because despite his youth, Joel actually has a history of stress-related foot problems. While this could indeed be the start of Gasol's career ending with his own problems, with no history of these foot issues, it doesn't seem fair to frame his injury in the same way as Tim's knee or Gay's heel.
Far as I know they are nebulous bc there’s not a clear injury like a fracture would be.
Just soreness which has been linked to player aging jokingly by teammates. Gasol himself didn’t know what brought it in and they are just hoping resting improves it. It’s too reminiscent to me of Timmy’s other knee giving out. It wasn’t related to any significant injuries in his good knee. He was just a 40 year old with a long mileage and stress placed on that knee by basketball and his knee gave out. Perhaps there was arthritis or something else that aging worsened. I do think Gasols problem is aging and wear related and aging isn’t going to go away.
Pau is missing a lot of hustle and crashing the boards. He RBs well if he's in the paint, otherwise, he spectates shots.
Pau is a s of his former self. But like Duncan in his last years, he anchors a defense and gets an offense moving like few other players. He simply understands the game. It's too bad we have him at the very end of his career; he's been an incredible player.
Pau anchors it down. Pau acts as a layup drill once guards get past their man.
