I know he barely looks like a minimum player out there, but recent words from Pop suggest he was paid due to his contribtuion in the culture. I dont know..how big of an impact is leadership?

Unless a player is good it isn't worth a teaspoonful of warm spit.

The pep club is a different group from the team.

We had to drop the Silver Dancers to pay a pep squad member 50 mil.

Averaging close to 10 points per game which is what he gave us in our championship years. Can't scapegoat him when other Spurs players have played worse

Glad Kawhi left! He didn't waive his towel or take "frogging" selfies with the guys like Patty does! Who cares about getting 60+ win seasons and WCF appearances if we don't have fun and take time to learn about other cultures!

YAAAAY RC AND POP! In you guys we trust

When Leonard was here and playing, we were supposed to think he was the new Tim Duncan.

Now that Leonard is gone, Pop would have us believe Patty Mills is the new Tim Duncan.

The word crazy is too mild a term for it.

People who think Mills is ever going to get traded is in for a rude awakening. This guy is going to get multiple loyalty contracts.

    This is what Pop said:

"He's like our inspiration, he's an ultimate warrior, gives everything he's got all the time," Popovich said of Mills on Saturday, via CBS Sports. "He feels responsible to everybody, he's always pumping everybody else up. He's just a wonderful teammate and a huge part of our program."

Basically a $50 mil contract to be the team's mascot fluffer

I've been very harsh on this contract but taking a second look, it was a fair deal. On pure play this contract is slightly overpaid but when considering the lasting ramifications and how much of a team guy he is, he makes up for it. The Pau Gasol deal on the other hand is about 8M-10M/yr overpaid. Mills has picked it up as of late. He is playing purpose and is being a leader. Too bad he has to play with Forbes and Belli. Offensively sound, defensively impaired.

Mills is a SG and not a facilitator. Spurs have been very good playing their roles. But with injuries, he’s forced to play outside of that comfort zone, and without help defense, exposed his weakness further. He’s a great shooter and could score in bunches with good talents around him. I’d pay him for that.

I doubt Mills would have gotten 50m elsewhere for his leadership. The Spurs bid against themselves.

the problem with Gasol's contract was (besides obviously having a new contract) the third year partially guaranteed imo

Well by a third look... Players aren't stupid... They see Patty Mills as dead weight just like we do... And they see Pop giving big contracts to old guys... They will be turned away because these guys want to play with good players... No one wants to play with patty freaking Mills getting significant minutes for years of their career

Pop's said like this before. It was discussed ad nauseum then, and I'm sure it will be discussed ad nauseum the next time Pop praises Mills.

There is nothing new or interesting about this thread. It's just another soapbox for people to about Mills and his contract for the fifteen millionth time.

For the record, I don't like it either, but goddamn am I tired of hearing people about it.
