Walker's going to play this year in SA. You are confusing him with their usual late 20s pick. By all accounts, he was in the top 10 on the Spurs draft board. The last player that they were able to draft from their top 10 played 64/66 games his rookie season and started 39.

I think so as well. This injury really sucks for him and the team, but I do think he'll get his share of minutes.

Good point. This year's team is much more starved for talent than that 2012 team too.

It's hard to see Walker starting cause it would push him or DD to SF, and neither is a good fit there. Walker should at least take minutes from Beli and Dante.

With our young guard cadre, DD will have to move to the 3 eventually, anyway, once everyone is healthy. You can't find meaningful minutes for three 1st round guards and DeRozan as a SG.

No matter who plays with DeRozan, hes the pg and will be a average at best defender meaning White or Walker would have to gaurd the best player on the perimeter even if it's a SF.

I’m afraid his inexperience is going to be too much to significantly help our crappy defenses. It’s still good for him to get reps for next year.

You can argue that DeRozan and Walker are close to the same size when take into account height, weight and length. Pop already showed he's willing to play DeMar with two guards, so I don't see him hesitating if Lonnie is instantly and NBA-caliber defender. There's little reason to worry about SFs being too big for either guy, because almost every team with a large SF plays a guardable player at the other forward spot. That's the player for Cun/Gay to check. And yeah, asking Lonnie or DeMar to guard Draymond isn't exactly desirable, but I don't consider worse over all than the Thompson assignment. If GS feels like repeatedly going after a Green mismatch rather than giving Curry or Durant the ball, I'm all for it.

As I said, it's an open question how much Walker can add to the big club this year, but there's certainly a place for a three-and-D wing in the rotation, no matter what side of 6-6 than player is.

Let's be real the dude hasn't been in a long time and coming of two back to back knee surgeries the Spurs will be in no rush to bring him up.

If anything, Lonnie brings some hope and excitement especially after losing Murray. He's got some serious tools to work with and potentially could speed up our rebuild if he became a star level prospect. Defensively, I expect him to be better than any of our active guards even as rookie.

Not exactly back to back. He had surgery before his freshman year, played most of the season, summer league, and most of camp, then tweaked it again. It was likely more or less a cleanup. I wouldn't worry about the short term. Westbrook has had like 4 of these meniscus surgeries on one knee, and he's still jumping out of the gym. Long term is another thing, but I'm not really worried about what happens to Lonnie in 10+ years right now. He seems like a bright kid who could learn to play with reduced hops when he's 30+ years old.

LWIV does bring excitement to the table! Once on the floor with the big boys, let's see what he can do! Now, when he comes out the gate, I'm not going to have high expectations, especially knowing that this injury has probably set his development back some, so he will struggle to develop his BB rhythm, team chemistry & confidence. I expect him to struggle on offense & blow some defensive assignments early on as well as throughout the season, but hey, the guy has to learn somewhere. We'll see what his BBIQ is made of, if any, & combine that with his size, athleticism, agility & speed, & then translate that to his game on the court. But if he looks as advertised (eventualy), then SAS has another good pick who may have All-Star potential, which is something this team needs going forward. GSG!!!

I'll be excited to see what he has. With very little college experience he'll be pretty raw, but the basic tools and natural talent seem to be there. I like his at ude too. We'll see.

Did he get a chunk of meniscus removed or was it just a meniscus injury non-repaired?

Murray/Walker duo has a crazy potential (Murray really is already an elite defender and one of the best rebounders of his position in history), I see in Walker the potential of being that guy on the offensive side and really a 2-way elite player

I have the hope that if given minutes he will be the best player of the Spurs except the big three until the end of the season

Someone suggested (probably in this thread) that that assumption may not be correct. For a new injury, the removal/repair option works out that way. But if the procedure was really a "clean-up", then you can have the short recovery time without taking out as much material. I'm not in the medical field, so I wouldn't really know. Just saying that Walker's particular history actually leaves room for some optimism here.
