So, Kawhi didn't play last year either. Why are we worse than last year? Danny Green? Manu? Tony? DJ's injury? Pau's injury? LMA going from a stellar year to a poor one? Kyle?

One wonders in retrospect if last year the team overachieved.
No championship pride left. Your best player(s) LMA has off nights, and Demar doesn’t play great defense, for others to follow. Forbes is not a starter. He is too small or not care to guard against other starters.

    Narrator: They Don’t.

Honestly, do think there is any truth to Pop not having the locker room? How can a team be down double digits in over 50% of their games?
I think Pop still has the locker room. Don't see any signs of the team giving up on him. If we knew before the season that LMA would start the first 21 games at a career-worst level and Forbes would be forced to be the main point guard, Spurs fans would be happy with a 10-11 record, tbh.

Given the cir stances, Spurs being one game out of the playoffs isn't too surprising.

I really don't think they did based on the level last year's players performed at, 47 wins or so was a fair representation..

Aldridge was an MVP-level player last year..most fans and media didn't realize how great he was, while Pop received most of the credit..he CARRIED this offense, they were an embarrassment without him..

17th on offense was not an accurate representation of the team(easy schedule early on), they were the 27th ranked offense in the 2nd half of the season, which is exactly what you would expect from such poor offensive talent..

However, they were 3rd on defense, which made sense with the players on the roster..it's funny because virtually everybody here disliked Green and Anderson, but the reality is that both were high-level defenders, as was Murray..

Looks like Pop believed his defensive system could withstand the loss of the defensive talent on the team..

To be fair to him, Murray getting hurt, Gay's health issues and Aldridge aging 10 years in 3 months isn't his fault..

Too bad the Spurs didn't trade for Bradley Beal & Oubre instead of DeRozan & Poetl.

But DeRozan was added and he’s been the main point guard. You don’t view a team not mustering up energy time and time again to coaching at all? 57% of the games SA has been down double digits.

    Derozan

I remeber when spurmfans were excited.

Aldridge is so old and fat now.

Last year team was a broderline 35 win team but Aldridge was playing at an All-NBA level. This year he is horrid and a lot of that has to do with his personality.

They badly need a net positive role player wing. A 3&D player right should give them 5+ extra wins which could be the difference between playoffs or not.

What really sucks about the roster and the coaching is that the players Pop turns to for energy are guys who are in their 30s who aren't good defenders.

It's not fun to watch Dante, Fatty and Marco try to dig the Spurs out of a hole.

    At all.

It's unrealistic to expect a rookie Walker to save this ship.

Yup, he needs major minutes tho to see if he really can be a pillar to build around. As of right now everybody besides Murray should be on the table right now imo.

Would be nice to tank and net a player like Zion. Try to get a championship out of him before he would eventually "want to go to LA".

    Very salient points.

For what it was worth, I was pro-Anderson and especially Green last year. That said, I didn't mind losing them too much, so I'll take my deserved lumps like the rest of us.

I would deal anybody not named derozan unless it actually made the spurs a better team.Unfortunately murray and pau are hurt and lma is playing horrible

I didn't mind losing either of them, either, despite being an Anderson fan and Green being my favorite active player..

It's more disappointing that they didn't replace either of them with other 3-D players..also sad that Green looks like he did pre-Aldridge as soon as he left, which is what all his supporters here had feared would happen..

Seeing how Minny is playing with Saric & Covington, maybe that was the best trade for the Spurs all along? For Pop's goal of staying "compe ive ", ofc.

Have to genuinely worry about DeRozan's mental health this season, might have to shut him down in January..
I didn't want to say anything about it bc the last time I mentioned something about his mental health a fan here freaked out... but after the Raptors are looking like the future NBA champions and he's watching this show, I do wonder if trade requests won't be forthcoming soon.

Losing your best defensive players and replacing them with some of the worst defensive players in the league hurts

I just find it odd that Pop is the same that built a team that made the Finals and won a le with TWO 3&D players starting next to each other while most teams in the league didn't even have a single one..he had 2 of the top 3-5 of those guys at the same time..

He used to be ahead of the game in every facet..Father Time is cruel..

I don’t blame them too much for this year. Put in a brutal spot and didn’t have time to truly plan or build. This next off season the clock is ticking though

Spurs fans continue to believe LMA is a keeper...
He's an enigma for sure. The problem is that the spurs had veteran leaders for 20 years that they don't have now. Lma just doesn't have it. Kawhi didn't have it. Guys like mills can amplify a leader but can't be a leader themselves. That's why Murray is important. Pop is going to have to figure out how to motivate this team without Duncan and Manu.

As far as lma, I say keep him as hope he adjusts to a limited role as a defender. He's still a mobile tall guy. Poetl might be our best big soon, so lma could take the gasol role of bench spark and backbone. None of these hopes are great, poetl isn't likely to be an all star. But lma isn't suited to join a contender (unless they're really desperate like Houston). He's not a cancer, but he's cancerish.
