i just got it as a gift yesterday tbh ... im about 30 minutes into The Last of Us
Dude just finish Last of Us. You could literally beat it in a few days and it's one of the best linear video game experiences you'll ever have. I can't say enough good things about the Red Dead series, but you'll be playing that a while.

Speaking of which... have you never played the Uncharted series either? If not those are must plays and can all be had for dirt cheap now. The first one is very dated but they just more and more incredible (with the possible exception of the Lost Legacy).

Ugh I keep hoping for good Switch games to get announced, but the one just announced on The Game Awards was Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. What a pos that looks like, the first one was awful.

Good to borrow since those games don't have a lot of replay value IMO. Still highly worth playing UC 1-4 though.

I don't remember. I think like best story, best music, best indie game, etc. I only unmute the stream when a game premier comes on.

Oh wow, Journey is getting a PC port. Pretty cool 3-4 hour game that had been a Playstation exclusive since like 2012.

Wow, God of War won GOTY. Can't really comment since I haven't played it yet (it will be next). I just thought RDR2 was a shoe-in.

Must have been the only thing RDR2 didn't win then.

Seeing Joker from Persona 5 in Super Smash Bros was quite the tease until I remembered he's in Persona Q2 on the 3DS. So probably no Persona 5 on Switch.

The Game Awards. It's a lame show that was tonight. There were rumors about Metroid Prime 4 and Death Stranding having trailers at least and we got jack . I forgot this show is pretty worthless for reveals though, at least it was last year too.

General question, do you guys play one game at a time until you've beaten it or do you hope back and forth?
One at a time here... normally, if I stop playing something, it's over... (only exception might be some DLC)

played a couple hours last night. game is quite good. i'm playing hard difficulty. the main challenge is really just the sheer lack of resources. i couldn't get into one of the "shiv doors" because i didnt know one was coming up and didnt have materials to make one, so that felt frustrating. at this point its basically a fools errand to ever engage a clicker if there are more than one in the area. i can bash one with a brick, but if there are any more nearby, i'm basically ed.

early in the game i was just using the out of resources thinking they'd be more common. also enemies tend to just be bullet sponges. even random humans. and its difficult to have accuracy with the weapon sway. coulda sworn i had headshots with the basic pistol and it wouldn't one-shot people.

though i imagine the easier difficulty levels are probably boring since you have plenty of supplies, you never have to think about "hmm, should i engage here or no"

Yes and no. It's a survival game so resources are limited in all difficulties, but you do find more parts on the easy setting. The game only allows you to carrry so much ammo for each weapon, etc. Don't get too attached to any one weapon because you'll be forced to switch out often due to lack of ammo. Stealth kill (without shivs) when you can. One good way to take out clickers is to attract them with a bottle/brick, then take out a group of them with a molotov.

Where the game really shines is the storyline/characterizations though.

i dno man. i've gone back and looked at some playthrough footage (only for areas i've already cleared, something i do from time to time to learn from mistakes i've been repeating), and these guys are just collecting a stupid amount of supplies, to the point where their inventory is always "full" for blades, even after having crafted 3 shivs. theyve picked up more blades in 15 minutes of walkin around than i did in the first couple of chapters. and its not like i dont go scouring around.

Yeah you do get more items per "loot", just don't remember how big the discrepancy is.

seems massive from what i've seen. but its all good, it adds to the survivalist experience playing on hard. i just wish i had known earlier when i used a decent amount so liberally.

but i doubt this will be the last time i play through it. i'll eventually replay it on survivor and/or grounded difficulty when i've learned the game better. evidently on those modes you dont get to use the listen ability either.

Last of Us is meant to be played on Grounded tbh. is ridiculously difficult and requires a lot of patience though

i wasn't going to jump into my first playthrough on Grounded ... i want to enjoy the game first. besides, from everything i had read about the game, part of its greatness was the storyline and character arcs. and there's no better way to ruin that than to stall your progression for 2 hours while constantly dying on the same part. i figured Hard is sufficient not to lose my gaming man-card
