Bloodborne's PvP is janky even by From Software's standards, but it probably is their best game.

The ironic thing for me is that I probably have the most hours invested in the first Dark Souls, yet it's the only Soulsborne game I have't beaten. New Londo is the most cancerous stage of the series by far. I'll take any level from Dark Souls II instead.

No way. Valley of Defilement 5-2 in Demon's Souls is way worse.

i wasn't going to jump into my first playthrough on Grounded ... i want to enjoy the game first. besides, from everything i had read about the game, part of its greatness was the storyline and character arcs. and there's no better way to ruin that than to stall your progression for 2 hours while constantly dying on the same part. i figured Hard is sufficient not to lose my gaming man-card
Bend over. I'll show you sufficient hard.

BB is an action game. Imo, its a revolutionary game. I cant think of a game in the past thats just as polish in combat. Its everything what every action\combat has ever dreamed off.

Sure Dark souls and Demon Souls came first but BB was a tier above.

Only other game that I can think off thats up there with BB in Combat is GOW.
God of War's combat is that good? I haven't played it nor the third but the first two seem like button mashers.

I bought it, but still want to play God of War 3 first. Still got RDR2 in the backlog too.

2019 looks like a pretty weak year overall so I'm sure I'll be playing my backlog mostly.

Skip the third. Third game is button mashing.

The new god of war is strategic combat ala bloodborne.

Nah I'm going to play the third, as I really liked the first two.

Okay, it looks like I broke Octopath Traveler. Why is it that every turn-based RPG falls off a cliff difficulty-wise after a certain point? Whether it's due to grinding or something else, these games never maintain their difficulty outside of sidequests/optional bosses.

Maybe that's part of the appeal, though, because I am just running through battles like it's nothing.

Shin Megami Tensei IV on the 3DS is one of the few that doesn't. For me it started very difficult early on, then got easy until the last third of the game where the difficulty jumped up a cliff again.

That's interesting, because I have never played that. I only played Persona 4 and 5, and the hard mode in that is just a grind fest (and both have Yo sune, who is broken but awesome).

The last turn-based RPG that made me actually pay attention to what was going on was FFXII, because it required micromanagement when doing sidequests. Everything else seems pathetic. I heard so many people claim that the optional bosses in FFIX were hard, but I beat them all on my first try.

The only RPG's that I consider difficult now are X-COM games. I am terrible at them.

SMT games are way harder than Persona. In Persona you can be really sloppy building your characters with just offensive spells but in SMT you'll get completely wrecked without building a team with lots of buffs and debuffs. Plus you can stack buffs and debuffs unlike Persona, as can your enemies. Persona 4/5 are pretty easy with Rise/Futaba constantly buffing you but you don't get that benefit with SMT. Even with level 99 main character and teammates you'll get completely destroyed by every boss in the last third of SMT IV if you don't have a good team set up to buff/debuff and counter when enemies do. But SMT IV was my first in the series. Supposedly SMT III: Nocturne on PS2/PS3 is the hardest but after learning SMT IV it made Nocturne a little easier IMO. SMT has none of the life sim / dating sim stuff from Persona though, none of the social links/confidants, they're just straight dungeon crawlers.

SMT also has a different battle system that strongly penalizes you for using an attack an enemy can block, dodge, or reflect. It's called the Press Turn system (as opposed to the One More system Persona uses). Probably just easier to google the Press Turn system and read it on a SMT fan site as opposed to me explaining it all though.

i wanted to sneak in another short game before starting rdr2, played through Arkham Asylum again (got it as part of the $6 return to arkham deal). game was short and sweet... but man, combat in that game (on hard difficulty, at least) is WAY less forgiving than Spider Man. even though they use the same basic free-flow combat, AA felt much more difficult. if i was sloppy even a group of 4-5 unarmed henchmen could take you down. combos reset after even the slightest misstep, whereas in spiderman it felt like you had an eternity to keep the chain going, as long as you didnt take a hit.

even on the ultimate difficulty (which you only unlock after beating the game), combat in spider man was a breeze, compared to batman. the boss battles had much more punishing checkpoints as well. still a fun game, but you had to be laser focused, as you dont get the alert to dodge/counter on hard difficulty, you have to pay attention to character animations, which is frustrating in big brawls with 8-9 people surrounding you.

gonna play RDR2 next... then god of war, followed by horizon

I was getting my ass-kicked in Spider-Man when I started it. Maybe I am just playing it like an Arkham game, but that game seems more difficult.

    No.

    Go GOW, Horizon RDR2.

Dont underestimate massive games like RDR2. I havent played in a month because of game fatigue from persona and people were complaining about game fatigue with Witcher.

    Go from shortest to longest.

I don't agree with waiting on RDR2 (because it's just that ing good IMO), but game fatigue is real. I almost quit gaming for a year after beating Persona 5. In fact I sold it to Gamestop just so I wouldn't be tempted to play it again.

I also had to take breaks during Witcher 3 even though that's one of the best games of the last decade. And RDR2 I've been playing exclusively since launch, I'm sure well in excess of 100 hours, only now slowing down since I've completed the story.

i get what ur sayin man, i used to be big into gaming during ps2/ps3 era.

im not too worried about gamer fatigue since im not in my college mode of playing several hours per day. im usually playing around 1-2 hours per day on weekdays, usually about 3 days out of the week. weekends a bit more pending other obligations/plans.

i also have some pressure to play rdr2 because my bro in law got it for me and keeps askin how it is

spider man was actually a little tough in the beginning before you learn to deal with brutes. the fisk fight takes some adjustment.

in my second playthrough it felt laughably easy. but its sorta a rite of passage

It actually gets way better the farther you go. Lots of people quit after Ending A, especially since it requires replaying a good chunk of that segment, but they're missing the best part of the game by quitting so early.

You'd be broke AF. Now if you had a dollar for every time I typed "Shin Megami Tensei" you could probably make a trip or two to Valentine.
