Funny. Just when I said this team is unlikely to bounce from their bad basketball they did it with the game vs Clippers and since then the quality of the bball is higher and this team looks more like a team.

That was a good game vs this Denver team. Let's see if they can win 2 in a row.... Hard thing to do.

Patty and Bryn knows their role better and overall there is not much hesitation is Spurs now. Davis is bombarding nicely. Aldridge have ups and downs. Poet l is also fitting better especially when put in screen actions. I though he will drown but he keeps his ground.

If they will continue to improve we do have good chance to be in 2nd round of the playoffs

White needs to be sent back to G-league to remember how it feels to play without deferring to other players. He should be looking to shoot the 3 and not being afraid of taking it.
Your delusional if you think Whites role is to play like he did in the G league. His role is to get others involved and to run the plays. You can tell he still hasn't found his spots.

I believe he should eventually play Manu's 6th man role in 2 years. With all these injuries, loaded back court, etc... it will definitely be a transition but on defense he is a stud.

    Jakob Poeltl

Alright, this big dude ain't bad. The defense with Jakob Poeltl on the floor was stunningly effective. Pop trusted Poeltl to defend Jokic one-on-one and Poeltl more than held his own. The Austrian was also quick to rotate, played good transition defense, avoided cheap fouls and was a beast on the boards. Offensively, his pick-and-roll game was strong, he scored on the break and he made heady passes. Truth be told, the Spurs just looked like a more cohesive team (particularly defensively) when Poeltl was on the court.
    Grade: A-
Summary: Poeltl is very good at basketball.

    -------------
One could say, the Spurs played a winninger brand of basketball when Poeltl was on the court.

Aldridge completely dominated Jokic. He needs due credit.

I love Poeltl crunching into guys.

DDR is very good at basketball.

White’s passing has probably been the biggest surprise. I knew his defense would come around (average a steal and block in college) I think his offense will come around too. He definitely has the potential to be 35-40% three point shooter. His college splits were a big reason the spurs probably took him over josh hart. I’m excited to see when he finally gets comfortable on offense.

They played Jokic, Plumlee and Hernangomez at the same time. If that isn’t baiting Pop into using Cunningham I don’t know what is. Glad to see it didn’t work.

Gay seems like he does best when matches up onto undersized SFs trying to play small ball PF, but struggles a little bit against mobile PF/Cs.

Also yes, good to see DeMar not get frazzled by the bad calls.

Speaking of bad calls, wtf is up with Today’s NBAs refs? Is it just me or are they even tier than normal?

Thanks Timvp. Agreed on everything. I would have liked to see LW4 especially defensively to protect the lead because, if anything, that is the main problem of this team, squandering the lead the last quarter/minute. Other than that very much satisfied. I still think Spurs has the the best 2nd unit. That lineup of Mills, Belli, Bertans, Poeltl was a thing of beauty
Yeah, agreed about that 2nd unit! They are fun to watch because of the ball movement; the energy; the 3-ball shooting, even some decent defense! I recall that mid 4th quarter when they were subs uted by the starting lineup, & I was like: "Oh No! Keep them in!" But I beleive that DD10 & White was also in the lineup with them as well. The starters seem have too many ISO players. Another thing of concern is this team's lack of ability to score in the second half. This seems to be a trend that may be contributed by their lack of energy(?), which for one thing, it may be one of their key problems to why they may go cold from a scorng standpoint (the starters). GSG!!!

Time travel 3 weeks back, say you come from the future and post this on ST... Even the most hardcore homer laughs at you.

This is really insane and why I made a thread (hijacked and trolled by some weirdo) to praise Pop a couple days ago...

What he made and how he adapted is truly remarkable. Last night was another example... The way Spurs trapped and put Jokic, Denver's offense centerpiece out of his game (a season low 5 hots) was brilliant.

Thanks for the grades! Agree playing the same team twice in a row is a tough one. Hopefully if Rudy and Patty play more up to form we will have a shot at the win.

Awesome as always! Good stuff and of course the cliff jumpers are eating ...again.

Also, dabom really, really needs to just off himself. What a sad, sad existence he must lead.

I’ve been really impressed with Poetl. Still a shame we couldn’t get Siakam though. He would have paired really nicely with LMA tbh

    Thanks for the random thoughts!

I was surprised by Hernandez-Gomez. He was a machine. Is he always this good, or was this his one shining moment?

    ...

Oh, and this win means nothing if the Spurs lose at Denver. Makes last night a fool's gold win. -- spurstalk

Been saying all season that this is a fun season - and that Timmy,Manu,Tony are not coming back - best to enjoy this team grow and also not to expect any les soon.

Idiots like "the great " don't know what the they are talking about and should just move to toronto already -
there were many cliff jumpers trading away the entire team 3-4 wks ago.

(as soon as this team goes on another losing streak they will start up again - guaranteed!)

Spurs have never won a back to back this season. I'd much rather say Denver W, Flippers L, BOS W, TOR W

Well that tweet made my day! I knew we were doing well, but this is pretty amazing. It's all I've wanted to see this season, just a team working together free from self-centered drama.

The turnaround has been nothing short of amazing.

They've had some games against bottom feeders to help out those stats, but also have some impressive wins along the way...Nuggets, Wolves, Clippers, Sixers, Jazz. Those are all teams that have been playing well, even if their record doesn't exactly currently reflect it.

Even with the 8-2 spurt, though....Spurs are still just 8th. They need to keep the momentum going to stay alive.

Fortunately, they are somehow only 4 games out of the #1 spot in the West.

Unfortunately, they are also only 4 games away from the 14th spot.

If this parity keeps up in the West, it's going to make for one of an April.
