Whose buyout? Any money paid to Gasol counts. For Nikola, there's a set amount an NBA team can pay for buyouts each year. Don't remember what it is this year, but it's probably just under $1 Million. Anything beyond that has to come from the player's pocket. The Spurs could help with that by structuring whatever contract to have a signing bonus, which the player could redirect to the buyout club. I think the max for the bonus is 20 percent of the first-year salary, so there's a cap on how much a team could help under any cir stance. I think Nik's deal has buyouts for the that less-than-$1-Million max each year, so the bonus dance shouldn't be an issue. The biggest issue is that the two sides may not be able to agree to a contract at all.
