As has been discussed already... you want to stop illegal immigration, start prosecuting the business owners, farmers, etc that employ them. Period. If it's drug trafficking you're trying to stop, a wall/fence isn't going to make a difference. There's too much money to be made for that to deter them.
And I'm not even opposed to a wall. I am opposed to a 5 billion dollar check to pay for it though. Trump wants it completed before he leaves office though so he can hang his hat of it as a signature accomplishment.
They are already being prosecuted except for in 'Sanctuary States' like California and New York. In fact Trump's DOJ made the penalties much more severe his first year in office.
