Definitely cherry picking but the spurs are not really performing that much better than expected based on last year, they just underperformed after not having a PG at the beginning of the year. They have adapted and changed the game plan to maximize the talent on the team.

Pop pretty much buried the talks about coaching not making a difference.

And pop going mid range is smart. The team has little chance of winning the le but they have two of the best mid ranger players in the league so they adapted the system to maximize it. The leagues defense is also designed around stopping 3s and paint shots so the mid range opens up.

The spurs is a solid sixth to eighth seed based on talent but because of pop they have a legit chance at four.

This team is still mediocre tbh. They put masking tape over their defense that should help them make the playoffs, but it'll be exposed come playoff time. DeRozan is also still a huge worry, I've never seen a playoff let the refs get in his head more than DDR.
