on a side note, Trump's witlessness and incompetence are a national security risk per se.

I'm not sure if this story is more embarrassing for the FBI or the NYT

    Time will tell
This is ridiculous, even if you or they feel there's no conspiracy. There's simply a duty for the FBI to investigate potential cases, and the NYT didn't make up the investigation, thus no reason not to report it.

In fairness, the NYT did report in the election year that the FBI saw no clear link between Trump and Russia. I have a feeling an explanation for the disparate reporting may not be swiftly forthcoming.

So the NYT should stick to potentially outdated/misleading information even if there's new developments? IIRC, Comey was fired in 2017, post-election, so this investigation was started well into Trump's presidency.

    Understood.

NYT seems to have been grievously off base first time around.

to me, the main question remaining is whether Trump was smart enough to realize what he was doing.
The ignorant, bigoted conman, the 6-time bankrupted failed businessman, knew in the 90s that his "con was up", started hawking his ing "brand" to marks, his steaks, wines, fraudulent university, "268 items for sale on the Trump Organization's online store."

Russians and their $100Ms kept his con going, and certainly "he realize(d) what he was doing", and his stupid son stupidly announced that the Trump org was floating in Russian money, didn't need US banks that refused to lend him anymore.

He "knows" that "doing" the bidding of Pootin is how he keeps his con going now, from being exposed.

That the ING failed so-called criminal, illegit Pres could be excused because he "didn't realized what his was doing"?

    Senate intel committee grills Nunberg:

Senate intelligence committee investigators are interviewing former members of President Donald Trump's campaign as they hunt for evidence of possible collusion with Russia, asking one witness Friday fresh questions about the president's business dealings and how he formulated his policies toward Moscow.

Sam Nunberg, who worked for Trump and his campaign in 2015, said he was questioned in a closed-door session on Capitol Hill about Trump's trip to Moscow in 2013, his company's interest in building a tower there and specific relationships between past members of the campaign and foreign actors who may have worked with Russia.

"They are doing an exhaustive investigation," Nunberg told NBC News after his interview, which he said appeared to be "narrowly focused on collusion."

Also of interest to investigators, Nunberg said, was the campaign's relationship with the National Rifle Association and efforts by a Russian national to get a meeting with Trump through the NRA. Nunberg says he told investigators Friday that he was aware of efforts by Maria Butina, who pleaded guilty last month to conspiring with a Russian official to interfere in American politics, to seek a meeting with Trump, using the NRA as a conduit.

Investigators also peppered Nunberg with questions which suggested to him that they were trying to pin down specific relationships among members of Trump's campaign and organization and outside actors, including Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

Last year, Nunberg went on a whirlwind media tour declaring that he wouldn't comply with a subpoena from the special counsel's office. But he ultimately reversed course and sat for interviews with Mueller's investigators. He also testified before a federal grand jury.

Nunberg described the committee's investigation as professional and bipartisan. "If I were the White House, I would be concerned," said Nunberg, who joined the campaign early but was fired in August 2015 after racially charged Facebook posts were uncovered. He later apologized.

Do you ever rethink what you thought you knew before when new facts come to light?

Isn't it kind of weird not to reevaluate? To never change your mind? It's a sign of indoctrination not to.

You don't have to go all the way to elaborate campaign conspiracies and underlying crimes to see serious problems. This bit of news moves the needle. Not all the way to the adamantine certainty occupied by our stalwart, bloviating friend, SpursHomer, but in the same direction.

You'd have to be kind of dense to not even consider it.
Trump does not even have to realize what he's doing -- or did -- to put national security at hazard and favor the interests of a foreign country that has been more or less grooming him for 30 years.
At this point if you're not at least in the camp of, "There is certainly a lot of smoke here and it's worth seeing how all of this plays out," you're being dishonest with yourself. Anyone who's still brushing this off as nonsense is either a troll, a shill, or has far too much of his self-worth tied to the issue for whatever reason and feels it some kind of personal defeat to admit that things aren't adding up when it comes to Trump, Russia and the various investigations thereof.
