Yeah, don't expect anything from Lonnie this season in the NBA unless you want more midrange shots coming off screens.

Toros went with basically no point guards and it showed. Metu had some good blocks and boards, but his post up game isn't effective unless he's got a substantial mismatch. Burn the tape for everyone but Blair, who was kind of nice in limited minutes.

The mid-range shot selection seems like something the Spurs in SA may want him to be focusing on more this season the 3 pt shot and penetration are there in his game his shooting though I thought were things he was needing to be more consistent with though.

Hopefully they can gel a bit this next month. Very cool mini-tournament.

Blair's part of USANT? If so, somehow it seems right. In 2009, a lot of people had him as a future star. Even as a rookie, he maintained the level of popularity around the league (shared the rookie ASG MVP with Evans). I don't know how much farther having ACLs would have taken him, but seeing him get an opportunity that used to be reserved for All-Stars is pretty cool.

Trice will probably be the best point guard they've had since White but losing Washburn and Ledbetter definitely hurts.

I imagine AEK should be the favorites just from their league level.

Joel Anthony is on the Argentinian team and Anderson Varejao starts for the Brazilian squad.

This guy highlights look all the same: a midrange fest. No drives to the basket, not a Lot of threes, no assists, no rebounds, no defensive highlights. He should work on diversifying his game a bit more.
I'm guessing he's been instructed to practice his in-game jumper as a priority... Hopefully he will work his way out to 3-point range.

I think as sloppy as D-League games are, halfcourt defenses are better than, say, what Lonnie faced in the Pac10. Midrange shots are what those defenses end up giving him -- or at least the only effective space he can get to shoot comes from simple high picks. You know the Toros' offense isn't going to work well when Walker and Jordan Green are your point guards, so Trice should be a welcome addition.

Does this mean that Walker, Metu are going to MIA with SAS?

It's All-Star Weekend and what would it matter if it wasn't?

I don't think it has anything to do with USANT. It says that the A-Spurs are playing in the tournament. Sounds like what soccer would call a "friendly".

G League is way better than NCAA talent wise. NCAS does have different rules and allows for more contact, especially on defense.

Flamengo is my favorite team, and one of the best basketball teams in South America, I think we have real chances of beating any of the teams in the tournament (I really do not know what to expect from Austin)

Hm, Metu recalled. Hope Eubanks is sent down. No sense to have them both on the mothership.

Austin Spurs have lost 6 in a row and by good margins on most of the games. Lonnie's mid range game looks good. Hopefully he will be a knock down spot up 3 pt shooter. Would like him to eventually take Forbes minutes. I like Patty's towel waving, intensity, and bball iq. Belli shooting like this will have to stay as well.

I saw recently that the Grizzlies picked up Julian Washburn on a two way contract.

(injuries to Anderson, Brooks and well, not wanting to go on with the saddle of Parsons' deal have left them in need of wings.) Regardless congrats to him. With him and Blossomgame getting 2 way deals elsewhere, it seems Austin is doing a good job developing roleplayers.

i'm not that impressed with walker... for all his athleticism, all he does in the halfcourt is pull up for jumpers off the dribble. he needs to show he can get to and finish at the rim much more often than he's doing now (not counting runaway dunks in transition

I don't think Lonnie is moving as fast or with the same abandon I saw in summer league. I'm chalking it up mostly to an extended recovery.

tbh he needs to focus on defense and hitting 3 points when open. That alone will get him minutes. The other ones are bonus

It gets harder when a multi-dimentional player tries to work on too many things tbh. Hit those open shots and play hard D.

I'm glad we've put to bed the thinking he could play the point in the NBA. Let us never speak of it again.

I just read this article on Bruno Caboclo, who is currently playing for Houston's G-League team:

    https://www.ridiculousupside.com/201...-valley-vipers

Seems like he could be a decent 3-and-D small forward in the NBA:

    • Shooting 42% from 3 this year in the G-League on 5.6 attempts per game
    • Other stats: 16 pts, 7.1 reb, 1.1 ast, 1.1 stl, 3 blk, 51% fg
    • Frontrunner for G-League defensive player of the year (according to the article), can guard multiple positions
    • Is 6' 9" and athletic, 23 years old

I'm wondering if the Spurs could somehow sign this guy and make something out of him a la Danny Green?

I remember when Toronto drafted him, one of the analysts said that he "was two years away from being two years away".

Well, it's been 4&1/2 years, so... Cut Q-Pon, and start cycling D-leaguer's on 10 Days. We can start with Caboclo.

Green was a great college player who was just drafted by the wrong team (rather, a good team that became the wrong team once James left). He might have needed an at ude adjustment, but he was not some raw guy that had to be developed.

I thought Bruno was on a two-way, but apparently the dude sign an X-10 and not an X-9. I don't necessarily think the Spurs should get him without giving Moore a chance, but letting Quincy go and signing some 10-days seems long overdue.
