I was hoping Feaster would enter the portal.
24/7 confirmed the rumors today are about ATH Bru McCoy.
What they know is McCoy met with USC people today with the intention of entering the portal and transferring.
It takes 48 hours for his name to be registered in the system, and Texas would have the best shot to land him.
The Texas staff hasn't had any contact with him since he's still a USC player.
Would a transfer instead of a release require him to sit out a year? That would suck. If I were him, I probably would stay at USC if I had to sit out a year.
Oh man. This seems so complicated. I wonder if he can somehow get a release without having to do the transfer portal? It’d suck for him to have to sit out a year.
That's what I'm thinking. It would be stupid for him to sit out a year, especially as a WR since WRs can usually get playing time quickly if they're studs.
Yeah, I don’t know enough about this but seems like an NCAA thing more than a USC thing, since he’s already enrolled. But if it’s up to USC maybe they allow it since they’re in a world of as a university and an athletic program right now and don’t need any more negative PR and publicity.
It depends, and information has been hard to come by.
I don't know if you remember the week McCoy picked USC, but there was no real clarity on whether or not he signed paperwork that is binding.
If he did, there's also a possibility Helton lets him go on his way and there's no penalty.
If I were Helton and USC, they would need to seriously consider what blocking McCoy would potentially do to their relationship with Mater Dei, and they already lost a handful of those players this year to Oregon because they're such a mess.
Also worth mentioning USC has no offensive coordinator since they lost Kingsbury almost three weeks ago.
Coaching change is one of the new loopholes that allows players to transfer out without penalty, right?
Does this rule only apply when a whole staff is replaced? Just the HC? Their position coach?
I looked into it seems to be just head coach. A request for immediate eligibility can now be granted if the transfer was due to “do ented mitigating cir stances that are outside the student-athlete’s control and directly impact the health, safety and well-being of the student-athlete.”
Found that bit of info above ^^^ also said they could do a written release that would allow him to play right away similar to what happened with Shea Patterson of Ole Miss.
I don’t doubt he’s trying to get out of Southern Cal but I’m not holding my breath he is successful. If something sounds too good to be true... Plus I don’t see why USC would actually just release the gem of their class. Losing their entire staff aside from Helton was a kick in the nuts. Then along comes the Kingsbury thing. Losing Bru is too much for them to just let go of I think and the ncaa prob isn’t going to make them seeing as its USC. No way in Bru takes a year off.
additionally bru unfollowed all usc coaches, continues to follow ut coaches
He's gone (from USC) as long as they'll let him go.
I wanted to clarify that I'm not positive if it's USC"s decision on letting McCoy go if he's officially enrolled already and taking classes.
If he has enrolled, then the transfer penalty decision could be in the NCAA's lap and USC has no say in the matter.
From USC's 24/7 site:
UPDATE FROM RYAN: OK talked to a source about this Bru McCoy situation. There are a lot of rumors out there about Bru McCoy transferring. What I can tell you is nothing has happened yet, but it doesn't look good. We should know more in the next 24-48 hours.
I'm reading USC classes started on January 7th, so it looks like this would have to come down to a waiver for McCoy if he wants to play immediately.
This would be enormous! Takes the sting away from losing LJH and replaces him with a guy with potential to be better. Crazy if Herman and Co find a way to make this happen, time to pray to the football gods...
Inside Texas reporting OL Javonne Shepherd will be making his Georgia and Alabama official visits back-to-back this weekend.
Texas will get his last visit next weekend, and they believe he's 60/40 to stick with Texas at this time.
Coaches were in Scottsdale, AZ yesterday to see 2020 CB Kelee Ringo.
